Bennett plays the ball over the top tp Pitman who hits it on the volley but too high and it goes over.
Pitman elbowed a Walsall player and it's a yellow card. Sounds like it should probably have been a red.
Walsall freekick over 30 yards away from goal. Hit into the box for a free header to Guthrie but Pompey put it out for a corner.
The corner cleared but Pompey playing the posession game again and not looking to attack. The crowd is not happy.
Walsall looking to attack again, Oztumer and Jackson linking up but one of them is offside. Pompey freekikc. Three minutes injury time remaining.
Cuvelier fouls Pitman in the Walsall half. Pompey freekick. The last chance of the game most likely. Evans take it playing into the Walsall box but headed away.
Whatmough with a long ball looking for Main who wins it but there's no one in support. Walsall attacking with a cross with is just out of Jackson's reach.
Game over. Pompey 1 - 1 Walsall. Not a great game and far too many long balls. Pompey were almost the achitechs of their own downfall with their bad defending and it's pretty clear the 4,2,3,1 formation is not working at the moment and not giving us enough options up front. Bringing Kabamba and Main on and seeming to get two up front made Pompey seem more dangerous. Shame Talbot went off injured and I hope he's not going to be out a long time. Three games into the League One season Pompey sit 13th with one win, one loss and one draw to their name, with a -1 goal differance.
Well that was interesting. Walsall started the brighter side, definitely but we grew into the game so that the first half was relatively even. I thought it was a marginally better performance than against Rochdale, however for the first 20-25 minutes of the second half we didn't turn up. When we got the equaliser, it seemed like we were marginally more likely to score than Walsall but there was always the real risk of Walsall hitting us on the counter. Possession football is fine and all, but Walsall could just sit and wait for us to make an unforced error which would inevitably come. We seriously need to work on our decision making... And it would be nice to be a bit more attacking.
Not long been back but yes a lot of huffing and puffing but rare quality. We had a couple of brief purple patches but a draw was about right. The ref missed a fair bit of off the ball nonsense and was generally poor. The one obvious from two games that I have seen is that in this division teams hassle the life out of you. The luxury of teams sitting in their own half as per Lge 2 appears to be over. This means we need to move the ball a bit quicker and not over think the passes at the back. Burgess and Jack were both very good. The goal we conceded was poor and the penalty a little lucky. That said they were lucky to have 11 on the pitch.
1-1 draw was a fair result. Two of Wallsall's four yellow cards could easily have been reds - both Chambers in the third minute, and Guthrie on Lalkovic. Pittman's yellow was deserved, but he didn't elbow Leahy, he just shoved him off the pitch. It happened directly in front of where I was sitting, and both players had smiles on their faces when they got up. Outmuscled in central midfield, Danny Rose can look after himself, but Adam May whilst playing some lovely passes, is still very inexperienced and lightweight. Same can be said of young Brandon Haunstrup. As Eastney says, they hassled us every time we had the ball. I reckon that Carl Baker will be on his way; probably to Coventry; early next week after throwing all his toys out of the pram, after Kenny J told him he wasn't included in the matchday squad. He was seen walking away from the ground in Goldsmith Avenue before kick-off, which is a bit childish on his part. Tough one at Wigan next weekend
