Don’t think defence is all over the place at all. They’re all picking up a man. They’re all in their positions and in a nice line. Problem is TAA has 3 men. He needs to be shouting at someone to get back and help. Someone from midfield needs to do a job and either spot it or be told about it and react. Matip is fine, he has a man. He can’t run away from a guy in the middle of the goal to pick someone up at the back post Fab doesn’t help. He’s actually infront of a man running back with him but then gets drawn to the ball and leaves that man to run onto Matip, meaning Matip then has 2, picks one up and the spare man drifts onto taa
Thing is your just looking at 3 screenshots there. Doesn’t properly show the build up and why people are suddenly out of position and how Brentford have more people in certain areas etc.
This is why Brentford are doing so well atm., they push players forward and work hard to overload areas
It’s a bit like Sheff united 2 years ago. Their centre backs in the back 3 would push forward as wel as the wing backs and midfield or forward so you’d end up with 3 players out wide overloading against the full back. Took a while but teams then worked them out. Will be same with Brentford eventually youd assume.
This was what I was thinking. It's all very well saying Trent has 3 on him with no help, but how often do opponents get that many men round the back stick? Apart from at set-pieces - when we're set up properly to deal with it - it hardly ever happens. It was just one of those games that all top teams get now and then, imo. A bit of sloppiness in defence and being too slow to react to an unexpected situation is all that it was - not some fundamental and catastrophic weakness that we need to be gnashing our teeth over. Learn and move on.
Anyways, what do people think of Frank as a manager? For me, with my somewhat less than comprehensive knowledge of foreign leagues, he's come out of nowhere - but he seems to have some good ideas. I'm interested to see how far he can take them.
Seems like a character as well. Find a lot of managers are rather dull and boring so having a bit of personality really makes them stand out and get some sort of connection with the fans. Prob helps that he’s German but reminds me of Klopp and TT in that regard.
Well, he's Danish - but close enough. The look he exchanged with Klopp after another ridiculous goal-mouth scramble was priceless. They look like two men who love football and the entertainment it provides when played that way, despite the tensions and responsibility the game brings. Mr. Tickle on the other hand, seems a bit dour to me.
if theres one guy with 3 then it can't be a nice line can it. just look over a shoulder and matip has to drop in the middle and let that near post run go as its a narrow angle for example. Yes TAA should be shouting but there's a litany of errors. Yes someone (fabinho) should be doing a job. No matip is not fine. he's wanders about and got nowhere there. If fabinho had got to the line and stayed where he was rather than rushing the guy he could have just cleared it. If taa had headed it up etc etc. Overall I would have to say irrespective of carragher's forgiveness its still not good. Robertson could have got tighter and ok he might get beaten but he's bascially let the ball in cos its less risk than getting beaten. trent is caught with 3 guys Matip is not trusting vvd or alisson and following a near post run he doesn't need to due to the situation. Fabinho rushes off line having got back in and leave open goal VVD never gets close to anyone.
We will see. they seem a bit more able to defend than say Hasenhüttl but who knows really. They have the one team so long term it is really about how they cope with the injuries and losses as seasons go by
Danish taste better than Germans. Right @Nozzer? Danish tastes like bacon, which is the best, but Germans taste the würst.
So TAA is out? Picked up a knock or something? Missed the palace game through illness then plays Saturday now missing Porto.
