Morison earned his first coaching badge at Protec Football Academy during his playing career.[4] He subsequently earned his UEFA Pro Licence and, after retiring as a player in October 2019, began coaching at the academies of former clubs Northampton Town and Millwall.[100][110] He was appointed as the lead coach of the Cardiff City under-23 team on 10 February 2020, joining up with Cardiff manager Neil Harris, who he played alongside and was managed by at Millwall.[110]

Following the sacking of Mick McCarthy in October 2021, Morison was place in temporary charge of the first-team.[111] Morison's first match in temporary charge was a 3–3 draw away at Stoke City with his side having been 3–0 down with just 25 minutes remaining, this result ending Cardiff's club-record run of eight defeats in a row.[112] Morison's third match in charge got Cardiff a first win in ten matches as a late winner from Kieffer Moore defeated Huddersfield Town.[113] On 12 November, Morison was appointed First Team Manager on a deal until the end of the 2021–22 season with the owner stating that he had been impressed by the more attacking brand of football on display in Morison's three matches in charge.[114]

Robin Friday (27 July 1952 – 22 December 1990) was an English footballer who played professionally as a forward for Reading and Cardiff City during a career that lasted four years in the mid-1970s.[n 1] His on-field performances were regarded as excellent, and he won Reading's player of the year award in both of his full seasons there, as well as being the leading goal scorer. However, his habit of unsettling opponents through physical intimidation contributed to a heavily tarnished disciplinary record, and his personal life was one of heavy smoking, drinking, womanising and drug abuse. Despite his short career, he remains prominent in the memory of Reading and Cardiff supporters, both as a player and a personality. He has been voted Reading's best ever player three times.

Born and raised in Acton, west London, Friday was scouted, but not retained, by four professional clubs during his teenage years. He appeared for local semi-professional sides in the Isthmian League until he joined Charlie Hurley's Fourth Division Reading team in 1974; quickly becoming a key player, he helped Reading to win promotion to the Third Division during the 1975–76 season. As his drug habit intensified, Friday's form began to dip in the first half of the 1976–77 season, leading Reading to sell him to Second Division side Cardiff City around the New Year. Friday travelled to join his new team by train without a valid ticket and had to be bailed by the Cardiff manager Jimmy Andrews before he signed for the club. He performed strongly on his debut, but afterwards his form declined and his personal life caused him to repeatedly miss matches altogether. Following a number of incidents, on and off the field—including kicking Mark Lawrenson in the face mid-game[n 2]—Friday retired from football in December 1977, aged 25. He died in Acton in 1990, aged 38, after suffering a heart attack.

The strongest aspects of Friday's game were his ball skills, footballing intelligence and physical and mental strength. Andrews labelled Friday "the complete centre-forward",[12] and, along with numerous contemporaries, retrospectively rated Friday as good enough for the England national team. In a 2004 BBC poll, Friday was voted the top "all-time cult hero" for both Reading and Cardiff City. The Cardiff-based band Super Furry Animals dedicated their 1996 single "The Man Don't Give a ****" to his memory.

    PNE Team News

North End will be without Ben Whiteman this weekend, with the midfielder having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Nottingham Forest.

Head coach Frankie McAvoy is hopeful of welcoming a few back from injury, though, with Patrick Bauer, Sean Maguire and Alan Browne all back in training after picking up injuries.

Longer-term absentees Matthew Olosunde and Ched Evans have also returned to training recently, while McAvoy said Connor Wickham’s recovery is ahead of schedule, with the striker back out running on grass.

Josh Murphy remains out with an ankle injury, although he would have been unavailable anyway as his loan and parent club come head to head.

Cardiff City announced last week that Steve Morison, who took over as interim boss after the departure of Mick McCarthy, will remain in his position until the end of the season.

Morison enjoyed a quite remarkable first game in charge, with his side scoring three goals in five second half minutes to recover a three-goal deficit away to Stoke City.

The Bluebirds won their last game prior to the international break, too, defeating Huddersfield Town at home thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Kieffer Moore.

    Key Stats

Welsh forward Moore has seen an upturn in form since Morison took over, scoring three in his last three, but he’s got some way to go to reach the heights of last season when he netted 20 goals in the Championship.

Cardiff’s main threat so far this term has arguably been young winger Ryan Giles, whose seven assists in the league so far this term make him the division’s joint-second top creator in the Championship.

As mentioned above, PNE could make this their eighth game unbeaten at home in the league, and it would be the first time they have achieved that since 2019, when Alex Neil's side went 11 unbeaten at Deepdale between April and November.

    Our Last Meeting

It wasn’t a happy journey to South Wales for North End the last time these sides met, with the hosts coming out 4-0 winners.

Kieffer Moore opened the scoring just two minutes in from the spot, before current PNE loanee Josh Murphy made it two. Goals from Marlon Pack and Mark Harris in the final 20 minutes then made the scoreline more emphatic.

Referee Leigh Doughty will take charge of his first ever Preston North End first team game this weekend, but he will be familiar with a few PNE players having overseen last month's Central League victory against Rochdale.

The former PE teacher became an EFL referee in 2019 and quickly moved through the levels, being appointed to the Select Group 2 ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Doughty has taken charge of 12 games so far this season, showing 48 yellow cards and one red.

    Decent folks on the above

    MACS VIEW

Which North End will turn up tomorrow is anybodies guess, will it be the Bournemouth team or the ones that played against Hull, Hudersfield, Derby, Forest and at Bloomfield, hopefully the former if not social media will be an un happy place tomorrow night
Doubt whether the club statement released last Monday week may have poured some petrol on the fire however a win my calm things down for a while but things are still bubbling under the surface
As for Cardiff new manager of sorts he's had a couple of game they are a big side Flint.Morrison and Moore so an ariel threat at dead balls will be a concern, need a win we really do

Good afternoon. I hope all is well up there in Lancashire and that you've managed to keep safe.

Fantastic match day thread (as always) and I like that you've shown some of the culture of Cardiff, especially seeing our new boss before and after the hairdresser.

I haven'r got a clue how to call this game. Your guys have to be the most inconsistent in the Championship. Brilliant at times and off the boil at others. We on the other hand have been consistently bad until the new regime took over. We're nowhere near a finished article yet, but a determined start to playing a less archaic style (and I use the word loosely) has seen an improvement.

Realistically, no matter how well we play on Saturday, the outcome will largely depend on the mood of the North End players.

I'd love to think we can play some decent stuff and get a draw out of this one but as I said earlier, far too complicated to call.

    Once again, outstanding thread <applause><applause><applause>

PRESTON NORTH END 1 Maguire CARDIFF CITY 2 McGuiness Collins
Preston North End: Iversen, Van Den Berg, Bauer, Hughes, Cunningham (Earl 68’), McCann, Ledson (Sinclair 68’), Browne, Barkhuizen, Maguire (Johnson 77’), Riis.

Subs not used: Hudson, Lindsay, Storey, Potts.

Cardiff City: Smithies, Ng, McGuinness, Nelson, Flint, Giles, Pack, Vaulks, Colwill (Bacuna 87’), I. Davies (Harris 62’), Zimba (Collins 46’).

Subs not used: Phillips, Morrison, Brown, Sang.
    Attendance: 10,749 (927 away)

Well, were do you start, defeat, inability to actually compete for 90 minutes, what hasn't change is the mood of the home support disapproval from the home support at the end of the game and it's not hard to understand why.
One up after two minutes and looked to be just about in control only put in a second half performance of utter ineptitude we were not even good enough to be shambolic.
Four changes from the non performance at Forest, good news Bauer was fit and Browne and Maguire returned bigger bonus Moore not even in the Cardiff squad, we started well Riis got awayb down teh right personally thought the best option was a pass to Maguire but he chose to shoot and forced a corner which led to another corner from which Maguire at the back post squeezed home his first goal of the season .Only nagging doubt or only defeat of the season iat home came in the first game against Hull after we lead after 90 seconds
McCann had a good effort blocked before City started to gain a foot hole in the game, they looked to utilise long throws and dead ball kicks but in truth Iversen was not really troubled, getting towards half time we may have got lucky with a penalty decision after Zimba went down in the box but towards half time we seemed to be more likely to get a second than City getting a first
Was not heard to see whose half time team talk worked, City making one change Collins coming on, previously scored a hat trick against us. From the start of the second half whistle we barely got out of our half, two early City corners, Vaulks hitting the post could have gone anywhere from the rebound, City player wastes shot.
On the cards City would level free kick from the right McGuiness back post goal, we rouswed ourselves for a couple of minutes mainly due to a bit of what looked like gamesmanship following a corner, ball cleared to a white shirt ready to be put back in the box, City player dead in the area, official stops play cue handbags in the box, no trainer called on for City player momentum gone.
City took the lead from a corner Collins from close range, Iversen thought there was a foul got booked for his complaints.
City went for the kill Colwill could have made it three great save from the Dane and cleared by Van Den Berg, as the game wore on City sat back as our painfully slow build up made it easy for them, as per usual we ended uplobbing high balls into the box cleared by the giants in the Cardiff back line.
If you thought the horror shows we have put in at Blackpool, Forest etc were bad this second half performance even surpassed that low bench mark

Preston North End manager Frankie McAvoy told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"Goals change games and they can change the momentum of the game, we knew that Cardiff would come out, they put things into the box and I felt we mainly defended it really well in the first half.

"They made one change, they brought on James Collins and that made a difference to them, we concede a wide free-kick at the back stick where McGuinness gets the better of Sepp and then they score from the corner.

"That's the first goal we've conceded from a corner this season, which is bitterly disappointing as we knew that that's the thing Cardiff are extremely good at, set plays.

"We needed to make sure that we were strong enough to deal with those balls into the box and unfortunately we weren't."

Cardiff City manager Steve Morison told BBC Radio Wales:

"First half we let the game be too frenetic and too many turnovers. They were better on the turnover than we were, so we made a couple of changes to what we wanted to do.

"Second half we came out and the boys were excellent, Collo (James Collins) getting his goal, working really hard and did really really well and Isaac was excellent for the second goal holding it up.

"It was really good and they carried out what we asked them to do, and the rest is history now.

"We need to start starting games like that, we can't be waiting for 45 minutes and going a goal behind, but the most pleasing thing is there's so much there to improve on."

The archetypal game of two halves.
I personally couldn’t see anything but a home win at half time.
Over the 90 City did enough to merit the points.
Preston seemed unable to cope with our change of formation especially Colwill, and our wing backs getting forward.
