Went to the skeleton coast once (not this bit), it was like being on the beach at Aberdeen in a storm! Good idea for a thread, some places on earth you could not make up, they are so wierd.
Socotra - an island in the Indian Ocean belonging to Yemen. It looks like a setting from a fictitious planet in a sci-fi film.
The Eye of the Earth, complete with floaters. One of the sources of Croatia's Cetina river. please log in to view this image
A bridge to.....nowhere? The Lakshman Jhula Bridge in India - a suspension bridge for pedestrians only, it stretches 450 feet across the Ganges River.
Somewhere in Iceland- where green fields meet yellow river, black sand and blue sea please log in to view this image
Deadvlei - a clay pan in Namibia. A mix of English and Afrikaans, the name means 'dead marsh' - the trees there are estimated to have died 900 years ago but haven't decomposed due to the dry climate.
I am assuming all these wonderful photos are taken by everyone personally? I must dig some of mine out if I can find them after the move....
I wish!! Mine come from a variety of sources - such as photography websites my son who is into photography recommends - and my rich brother in Sydney who has travelled a lot with a camera since retiring.
Bora Bora - an island group in the Leeward Islands. Known as Pora Pora or Pola Pola in the local Tahitian language, the name means 'First Born'. The main island is surrounded by a lagoon, which in turn is surrounded by a 'necklace' of coral reefs - which explains the odd colouring of the waters.
Stratus clouds over Inglefield Bay, NW Greenland - looking for all the world like a Constable painting.
