No problem with him, OGS etc proving themselves
while working up to the top tiers, but they were
given too much without proving much,

    New manager bounce strikes again.
Everton unrecognisable today. Why haven’t they been doing that for Lampard?

How many really top players end up as top managers?

Would be grateful if you can also get a victory tomorrow to minimise the impact of that horrible result and performance <ok>

I'd be concerned by that performance if I were you, honestly.
Everton made you look very ordinary, despite not creating a lot themselves.
Very flat throughout with some strange subs that almost instantly backfired.

I know better than to judge from one match, but that was poor.
New manager bounce and Dycheball can make anyone struggle.

On a side note, if Dyche does keep Everton up, it'll be interesting to see what he can do with the sort of funds he didn't have at Burnley

As things stand he could do what Moyes did with them, or he could do what Allarshyte did with them or Newcastle

Hopefully the former, as Dyche seems like a good bloke

I don’t want to read too much into it just yet, as it’s only our 2nd defeat of the season. The only other time I can recall playing as bad as that was Leeds away (which we somehow won).

It’s worth noting that a worse Everton side took a point at The Etihad this season and, last season, they were a dodgy penalty decision away from potentially getting something against them at Goodison. City have had their struggles against them, too.

But yes, Arteta’s record against Dyche isn’t impressive. 1 win, 3 draws, 2 losses. We clearly struggle against teams who pack the midfield, defend in a mid-low block and are threats from set-pieces.

I was saying on the Arsenal match thread that when Newcastle employed similar tactics, we struggled to get much joy against them at The Emirates. Couldn’t get into our rhythm and struggled to penetrate out wide or in central areas. Lacked directness.

I think more teams are going to be using these tactics as a blueprint to try and beat us. We need to find solutions to combat it. And fast.
