Not sure. Follow up comment is that "it's the most the club have spent for a while". Quintilla was only rumoured at £1.5m, which whilst that's more than we've spent since summer 2018 (I think?), probably doesn't fit the bill. Suggestion is German too. Not sure if this is a cryptic clue or not: please log in to view this image Loo Forfox?
Ok, I've got a guess: Alexander Fuchs (Fox in Ferman), 23 year old Nurnburg midfielder. Way out of the picture there and available for a transfer: https://www.nordbayern.de/sport/fcn...che-frei-23-jahriger-vor-dem-abgang-1.9719090 Not sure he'd fit the "spending money" bit though, he's barely played there and would presumably not be hugely expensive?
Someone else's guess: Lukas Rupp from Hoffenheim. 29 year old CM, also expected to move in January. Previously cost €6m, but has had a lot of time out with a serious injury and is out of contract in the summer.
Sounds like us, lot of time out injured! Confirmed Not sure he represents a priority, but hopefully he can get back to or even peak for us, could be useful. Bah!
Difficult to say, with two midfield additions, we seem overly stocked even with one outgoing to boro. We are consistently second best in the middle of the park, hopefully these guys can change that. Bah!
Wow, any sort of transfer fee combined with higher than middling City wages looks a monumental gamble. Really questioning Webbers judgement here, after Drmic and the predictable issues he has brought, this looks a disaster of Jarvisesque proportions in the making. Bah!
"In signing Lukas Rupp, we have continued to push ahead with our squad building," said Alexander Rosen. Rupp is a "player, who ticks the box for us in terms of recruiting a flexible and versatile midfielder, who can be relied upon to fulfill his defensive duties as well as adding impetus to our attack," said TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s director of first team football. The Heidelberg-born player had a hand in 11 goals last season (5 goals + 6 assists) and was also one of the top players in terms of ground covered in the Bundesliga. Manager Julian Nagelsmann is delighted to have secured the services of a "technically gifted, agile and tactically intelligent midfielder." At least, that would be the explanation had we signed him in 2016. I guess the theory is that he's a well-rounded midfielder who can contribute at both ends of the pitch. Perhaps the type of player you sit alongside Tettey/Trybull for a top club, but could handle a more defensive role alongside a McLean/Leitner/Vrancic when we're expecting to dictate proceedings more. For an initial €500k, it's an inexpensive risk should he flop, but really he should be in his prime, and would be worth far more were it not for a serious injury 18 months ago. Personally I feel it's also a move with eyes firmly on the Championship.
Bit of a strange signing this. How do we now look in terms of squad numbers and the number of foreign players we are allowed? Presumably 2 in 2 out means we are back to where we were. Worrying that leaves no space for a foreign CB to come in! Can’t see us paying the fee for an English CB. So will we see a midfielder leaving the club?
You've sold him to me DH. "Tactically intelligent". We could certainly do with one of those. We have several technically gifted ones, and a few agile ones, but tactical intelligence has been in notably short supply! At 29, maybe we can give him the captain's armband and encourage him to impart some tactical intelligence to others.
I would be more thrilled with a centre back personally but it's always nice to see new players come in.
Actually, to be serious for a moment, I disagree about a CB, Duncan. The principal source of our defensive weakness is midfield. If Lukas Rupp has been brought in to help address that particular running sore, I am both relieved and heartened.
