I would prefer the use of two badges....an official Club Crest, and a shirt badge/crest. I would keep the current one as a Club Crest. The big one on the SoL West stand main entrance looks class, but when its scaled down to put on a shirt/ merchandise I think it looks cluttered. Then use the ship badge on the shirts, the blue one preferably.....and embroider the thing on.
This is not a retro strip (I don't know what the criteria is), but it's the shirt that I wore for football yesterday morning and I'm posting it because I noticed how good a condition it's in, considering the fact that I've been wearing it for Sunday football (as well as others) since new, whenever it was our current strip I don't know why it looks a bit dark at the bottom, 'cos it doesn't really (it must be a bit of a shadow) !
Keep the club badge on the front of The S.O.L. Use another badge on the team strip Is that a possibility??

As previously mentioned, because a lot will have passed away, certainly the supporters when this badge came into use, anyone from that time remember any outcry when the club badge was changed from this?
I wonder if as much significance was attached to the club badge back in 1972. Football badges looked great in the Panini sticker albums in the 80’s and the ship one is very memorable from things like that. What era did buying the shirts become a thing for fans as well?
I had a couple of hand-me-down shirts from early 80's, but the first one I can remember buying myself was the first Patrick home one, maybe 86 or 87? Even bought the tracksuit that season, the one with one grey arm and one red.
