Can’t remember if we’ve had this classic on here yet. For some strange reason this was banned on the BBC and despite reaching no. 1 in the charts it was always referred to on air as “a record by Max Romeo”. I still can’t see what the problem is, clearly the poor man is trying to fix his leaky roof during a tropical storm...
I was listening to Alex Dyke on his bubblegum and cheese show one Saturday morning and they did songs with famous backing singers. Believe it or not this one features the late great Freddie Mercury on backing vocals
Ah, I love that song. Any chance you could get a better sound quality copy of it? This does it no favours.
Just got in from an amazing concert in Mells church, featuring Mells superstar Jane Taylor and the JT Band. A beautiful setting for Jane’s gentle, heartfelt and sometimes heartbreaking songs, with a 100 people or so completely transfixed by the perfect acoustics and consummate musicianship. The band are raising money to record their next album, which should be a cracker. Here’s one of Jane’s songs from a previous album:
I was watching an interesting programme last night about Roy O (BBC 4 I think). Very sad character who had more than his share of tragedy during his lifetime but also made him the great songwriter he was. Made mention of the Traveling Wilburys and the Black and White Night too, although personally I've never been a great fan of the "supergroup" type band.
Eric Clapton played lead Guitar on the original Beatles version. The young lad on stage is Dhani Harrison George's son
good story about Sonny Liston on the BBC website right now https://www.bbc.com/sport/boxing/48974341 here's Mark Knopfler's song
So sad to hear the news that one of my heroes, Johnny Clegg, has finally lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. The tributes to his life and work will ring out across the world. Here he is at what he later described as the high point of his life, being joined on stage by Nelson Mandela in Paris in 1999: Here’s an example of the reaction to his death: RIP Johnny Clegg 7 June 1953 - 16 July 2019 “We are all islands until we cross the burning water”
A brilliant album (Shangri-la 2004) Every song is a gem except the title song which is a yukky soppy love song and I hate those!
So sad - Johnny Clegg was an amazing person and someone who really worked for a true multi-racial South Africa. He will be sadly missed
Oops, sorry ..... 5.15 AM is one of those annoying ear worm songs to me ........ “Shangri-la” is an absolute classic in my opinion .......
Remember going to see this at the Atherley and sitting through to watch it a second time (showing my age!). Love this film and the music is mind blowing ........
