The great Dickie Betts has died at 80 years of age. He wrote some of the Allman Brothers’ greatest hits, including Jessica and Ramblin’ Man, and was crucial to the band’s sound. The iconic combination of his and Duane Allman’s twin lead guitars was copied by many but never bettered. RIP Dickie
I love how youtube sometimes just throws something rare and wonderful my way... Never heard of these before but it's a very moving performance...
Love that, just perfect. The video of Sierra Eagleson covering Going to California that follows it is pretty damn fine too.
So I've posted this band a couple of times before and people haven't been a huge fan of them but this is quite different from the previous stuff I've posted, so maybe it'll be more liked? I very much like a song that has a message or deep meaning, and this one definitely fits the bill. I feel like it perfectly encapsulates the strange aspect of modern society that even though we have the technology to be more connected than ever, people are so disconnected and don't talk or rarely talk people disappear, someone you were friends with one day you barely speak to the next and before you know it, years have passed and your friendship is just a memory. How it mentions we stay in our castles, protected by our walls, like everyone is just living separate lives regardless of how close you may have been at one stage, and I guess it's hard to let people into our lives. In a strange way, the song has a sort of hopeful thing about it in that it's basically saying that people get over it, and I guess you have to if you want to remain sane and in some ways it's good to just forget about someone. I can't be blamed though, I did try messaging a couple of people from high school back in 2020, one of which I was really good friends at the time (though we did have a bit of a falling out). One didn't reply and the other sent a single word reply, so at least I've tried. I like the kinda ethereal sound of the chorus as well. Also the lyric video with the dusk and the birds on the telephone wires has a certain bleakness to it.
I went to see the Bootleg Beatles on Sunday at the Bournemouth pavilion theatre and they were excellent as always. While reading the programme I read that Andre Berreau who was a founding member of the Bootleg Beatles in 1980 had passed away in August 2023. He had played George Harrison between 1980 and 2014 and was involved in the production side of things up until his death at the age of 67. I had the privilege of seeing him perform as George on a number of occasions. Andre also performed lead slide guitar and backing vocals on Robbie Williams Angels. RIP Andre
Mike Pinder, the last surviving original member of the Moody Blues, has died at the age of 82. He was a pioneer in the use of the Mellotron, which became a staple instrument in prog rock bands. RIP Mike
