    Nationalism is just ****e.

It’s like the 20th century didn’t happen and folk are hell bent on repeating the mistakes of the past.

Is it really Nationalism? ... the SNP are not a right wing group and they are seeking a referendum on the back of being ousted from Europe. With one of the central policy objectives to re-join the EU it makes Scotland more international than England who have ironically forced their nationalism on other Union states.

The EU has enough trouble with Greece, Italy et al, why would they allow Scotland to join?

Yes it is Nationalism, hence why they call themselves the Scottish Nationalist Party. Ronseal.

They don't want a referendum in reality because they know they will lose.

    Hope this helps brobert.

The figures from the Scottish Government show Scotland's notional deficit rose from £13.1 billion in 2018-19 to £15.1 billion in 2019-20. This is more than Scotland's entire health budget for the year, which was £13.8 billion in 2019-20.

Today’s Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (GERS) figures show Scotland’s implicit budget deficit increasing to 8.6% of GDP in 2019-20, around 6 percentage points higher than the UK as a whole, largely reflecting higher government spending. The Covid-19 crisis means that figures for the current and next few years are likely to differ massively though. Indeed, the UK’s actual and Scotland’s implicit budget deficit this year could spike at almost 19% and 26-28% of GDP respectively, based on Office for Budget Responsibility projections. And ongoing economic weakness means that the deficits will likely remain elevated even in 2024-25. With this in mind, this observation looks at what we can learn from the GERS figures and what might be in store over the next few years.

    --------------------------------------------

The EU will not accept Scotland.

Don't forget all that North Sea oil and gas, 'cos that will never run out. And the ship building. Don't forget all those coal mines too.

Sturgeon has no interest in a second referendum, she keeps the SNP supporters hanging on to keep herself in power, knowing that they will vote for her in the election on a promise of a referendum sometime in the future. Just look how the timeline keeps changing, we were supposed to have had one before we left the EU, now its 2023, when 2023 rolls around it will be the end of the next parliament.

There will be a few meaningless votes in the Scottish parliament about holding a referendum, to keep supporters happy, and claim the UK government is blocking it, when in reality nothing will be organised or followed through.
