despite a disappointing result today, this is a good reminder of how must better our over all season has been so far. Not only more points and better results, but much better performances in general.
It also has to be said yesterday's result hasn't seen our like-for-like total change at all, given our last six results at Goodison are... 2023-4: Ange draws 2-2 at Goodison 2022-3: Stellini draws 1-1 at Goodison 2021-2: Conte draws 0-0 at Goodison 2020-1: The ubermensch draws 2-2 at Goodison 2019-20: Poch draws 1-1 at Goodison 2018-19: Poch wins 6-2 at Goodison
PL (like for like with 2022-23 after 25 games) : Pts = +8, GF = +9, GA = +1, clean sheets = -2, W = +2, D = +2, L= -4.
Only 3 pts up for grabs this month on the PL "like for like" (dunno if the vermin FC fixture will be shoehorned in this month - they are still in the FA cup etc) . However those pts are against Villa, which means that game is a "six pointer" that Spurs must now win. The only point of note is that Villa have a midweek EL2 game beforehand (which may ask the question of how committed to that Emery is) .

Villas remaining games: City - away Brentford - home Arsenal - away Bournemouth - home Chelsea - home Brighton - away Liverpool - home Palace - away Spurs: West ham - away Forest - home Newcastle - away Arsenal - home Liverpool - away Burnley - home Sheff Utd - away Chelsea - away City - home. Both teams have some tricky fixtures, ours being tougher IMO. However, we have a game in hand. Personally, I think Villa will pick up 13. Wins against Brentford, Bournemouth, and palace. Plus a win and a draw against one of Chelsea and Brighton. For us, there’s some notorious banana skins in there. West ham, and Chelsea to name two. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get nothing from those. However, historically we’re good against City at home, and Arsenal at home is often a draw. I can’t call who I think we’ll beat, as I can see us dropping points against one of the obvious ones we should be beating, whilst in the same breath getting another win against city. (Standard Tottenham) My prediction is 15 points overall. Which by my limited maths, means we finish 5th. What are your thoughts on total points each team will pick up over the remaining 8/9 games?
So 8 pts are up for grabs on the PL "like for like" this month (the postponed fixtures do not change that) . And as I stated long ago ( https://www.not606.com/threads/season-compass-2023-24.407356/#post-16773963 ) this month is where things will be decided regarding a top 4 finish. Two "cup finals" (vermin FC, and now the Toon are wannabees) , and a NLD where both teams have to win to meet their end targets, Both manager and squad are well advised to watch the games of this month back in 2010 to understand what is required.
****ing hell, buildup to the match consisting of having to listen to several days of ****ty comments from Artetchy and Norbert back-to-back I thought the PL brought in rules to prevent so many breakages?
If the "like for like" is matched, then Spurs will take 13 pts and finish on 70 pts. 1. If I hold to my claim that 76 pts will be required to finish 4th, then Spurs will fail. 2. There are two games where the threat of losing points is strong : - Citeh - vermin FC (looking like being a repeat of 2016 on all dimensions ) So on #2, and if I include the other games against title candidates elect, IMHO the question is whether you believe at worst Spurs will take 4 pts from those 5 games.
It’s definitely progress on last season. However last season was an anomaly so I’d be interested to compare this season to the one before that (21/22) for a truer reflection
