I've been waiting for the Jack Stephens contract extension announcement before I commented.

Thanks, I said we would finish 4th and we are there already! <laugh>

Nah I have been surprised how quickly players have adapted and that transfer speculation hasn't been more disruptive to the squad. I think Martin and his open-book approach to transfer dealings has to take some of the credit there.

It would take a monumental f*ck up for Saints not to finish top 6. I'm not yet getting as giddy as others over the manager yet. See how we are after 10 games and all that. But the early signs are good. He seems at minimum, competent. Picks a good eleven, subs always influence the game positively.

I think there are only going to be one or two sides that can mix it with the relegated teams over the whole season.

Who do you think those sides are likely to be? I don’t really know enough about the squads of the others. Norwich perhaps? Ipswich have started well but do they have enough over the season ?

Yep, Norwich for sure. They're well overdue a promotion/relegation. It's been over a year. Ipswich perhaps. Seem to be well backed and on a roll (shades of our double promotion in them). Otherwise, I dunno. haven't seen all that much of other teams and nothing stands out about any of them so far. Birmingham a dark horse? Think they have new owners and backing.

Birmingham have made some good signings it seems, Getting the young Man United right back for less than a million for example.

This point about no one really standing out and adding in that many have lost some of their best players is what I was asking to people higher up the thread (before a ball was kicked) when they predicted 12-14th. Who are these 11+ other clubs. I’m not saying there won’t be 2,3 or even 5 others. But 11 to 13 to finish above took some real pessimism about the standard of our players compared to the rest of the league

With the run we have and our defending so far this season, I might not be so wide of the mark.

Stoke finished 16th last season with 53 points. That's just 5 more points than we have now.
