Black Velvet… Forgive me if you all already knew, I just found out today the song is about Elvis. Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell Jimmy Rogers on the Victrola up high Mama's dancin' with a baby on her shoulder The sun is settin' like molasses in the sky The boy could sing, knew how to move, everything Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for Black velvet and that little boy's smile Black velvet with that slow southern style A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees Black velvet if you please Up in Memphis the music's like a heatwave White lightning, bound to drive you wild Mama's baby's in the heart of every schoolgirl "Love Me Tender" leaves 'em cryin' in the aisle The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for Black velvet and that little boy's smile Black velvet with that slow southern style A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees Black velvet if you please Every word of every song that he sang was for you In a flash, he was gone, it happened so soon What could you do? Black velvet and that little boy's smile Black velvet with that slow southern style A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees Black velvet if you please Black velvet and that little boy's smile Black velvet with that slow southern style A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees Black velvet if you please
I did actually Ristac, Walking in Memphis is another good one by Marc Cohen.. Phil Lynott Kings Call is a good tune and he was a huge Elvis fan, although he was a scum supporter.
@Irishshako Forgot to tell you about a musical I watched (twice) on my cruise. I normally hate them, but Mrs WJ loves them. Exceptionally, I loved this one too! Called 'Million Dollar Quartet', & I think you'll like it. Apols if you already know about it. It's based on a true story of one night when Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins & Johnny Cash all jammed with each other. Normally not my kind of music (I thought), but the PA system makes a huge difference. They all play & sing live. Stunning. If you haven't already seen it, hope you get to find it somewhere.
I've the LP of that session which I believe happened in Sam Philips Sun studios in Memphis where Elvis recorded a few songs for his mother. I've never seen or heard of a musical, but it sounds brilliant. Thanks for telling me.
