Talk away you're both entitled to your view sorry I dunno why I got so serious im very outspoken myself so it's unfair of me.
What's a matter with you man... How do you expect to change people minds if you only want to hear the bits you want to. Anyway, I won't post anymore so I shall leave you to it.
I know some, but, the missus knows more of them than me. Will probably wait until I retire to get the Vespa now, was almost persuaded last year by one of them, then lockdown came, so just kept the username.
Bobs not even his name. I honestly don't know why he gets called it man, Stevie C He had a little fruit shop on kells lane Bob...
mud was mate. Heading out to the Galápagos Islands. That’s lots of carbon footprints mind. He’s a tall ****er and wore a white suit. Stood out quite well.
I think you are being overly dramatic - its so unlike you. 1. We have used the earth's resources to improve the quality and length of our lives on the planet - if we had been able to look forward when we first started using them seriously (power generation, then transport) and seen the amazing technological advances and improvement in life quality they would bring about, and then offset that against the damage it would cause, we would still have agreed to go ahead with it. In fact there is a good argument that if we had started using them quicker we would have caused a lot less deforestation caused by shipbuilding and powering ships etc. 2. A solution to the problem of climate change will only come about if its a win-win i.e. It benefits mankind, both personally and globally, and benefits the earth. Its unfair to expect developing nations to forego development to improve air-quality in developed nations. We will have to give them the technology and subsidise weaning them off fossil fuels. Provide grants for renewables development, give bonuses for achieving percentage contributions of non-fossil fuels to energy generation. 3. I am actually shocked by how quickly the energy transition is happening - the big energy companies are actually starting to focus on gas and renewables and getting out of smaller oil projects. Banks are now reluctant to fund all but the cleanest energy projects. A lot of this has been accelerated by the global pandemic, the demand drop for fossil fuels causing them to start looking at future energy scenarios. 4. The earth has a way of dealing with problems like this - population growth is already decreasing, climate change will reduce agricultural land availability which will reduce food supply and put further stress on population increase. As population stabilises and then falls, and our energy useage becomes more efficient, with a bigger mix of renewables, global warming will reduce. 5. As a geologist who deals with palaeo-climate and evolution I see climate change as a naturally occurring process. If we hadn't made it worse it would have happened anyway eventually. Species have been becoming extinct throughout time and climate has been changing. Geological processes have had a much bigger effect than what we are seeing at present. Life evolves to deal with them (or not). 6. In the short term technology will get us out of the problem we are in - more efficient batteries, ability to commercially use hydrogen as a fuel, fusion. The way technology develops is through scientific research. Exploring space is an essential part of our scientific research and will continue to derive huge benefits. And on that optimistic note - its still the semi-finals for me.
Don't worry the Great Reset will take care of all your worries. We currently live in an unfair world with the power and control of monetary systems lying in the hands of very few. This capitalist system is no longer fit for purpose, and because of how its set up, has led to catastrophic consequences for the planet. Fear not however the great reset will right all of this and allow us to build back better after the 'pandemic'. Build a more sustainable world with the interests of all at heart. The good thing is too, the people charged with devising this new system, have great credentials and significant experience. That's right its the very few people with all the cards in the current system. I'm sure we can trust them to build back better, make it more sustainable, and better for all. They wouldn't do anything selfish. We can trust them...
