Strong team for tonight's match - and it will need to work hard as Sociedad are no mugs. I really do hope the youngsters get game minutes tonight too.
I hope so too. They've only got 2 matches to do it in I'd like to see Dialo. He's in the named Europy squad.
Rashford just is so infuriating. For all his approach play the number of chances he misses is incredible. Clear cut and should be 2 or 3 by now. Same story as against Everton and WBA. Lack of ruthlessness.
San Sebastian is lovely mind. Pretty sure there is/was a poster on here lived northern Spain, they always claimed to be ITK when we were looking to sign Hererra.
There is a short stretch of coast from Santander, east to San Sebastian which is fantastic and very much overlooked by travelling Brits - great beaches and food too. I prefer the warmer winters.
Oh I know it, drive to Santander from Biarritz every year to get the boat home. Have stopped off a few of times for a couple of days here and there, places called Zarautz, Laredo and Noja. It's also really nice west of Santander.
Anyway, this is a really good showing. Pleased for Dan James too, got 90 minutes in and got a deserved goal. He gets way too much completely unnecessary stick, really baffling tbh.
Well we’ve broken that rotten run. A win is a win and a first victory away to a Spanish team. forget this and move on to the league.
Real Sociedad were the toughest opponents we could have drawn at this stage but they played into our hands by leaving wide open spaces. So we were very good but the opposition were naive to our strengths too. Newcastle will be much much tougher this weekend.
There's something quite honest about the way spanish teams play. They never go Sam Allardyce into a game. That doesn't mean they're not usually better than what we saw today tactically defensively, but they won't stick two banks of 5 in front of the goalie either. It's one of the reasons I followed La Liga for the best part of 20 years until only a couple of seasons ago.
