The Sunderland fan struck up a close friendship with striker Jermaine Defoe after he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at just 18 months old, a rare cancer that mainly affects babies and young children. He tragically passed away in 2017 and his parents Gemma and Carl set up a foundation in his name to raise funds and awareness to help and support other children.
