Just buy it at Christmas otherwise, as you rightly point out, you'll be buying it every week. I'd definitely have a couple of gin options. One decent dry London and a slightly flavoured one as an option. Whiteley's rhubarb and ginger is a good one, goes great with ginger beer or tonic. Not sure on blended whiskey, its only ever made me want to curl up and die the next day, so I'd avoid them and get a couple of decent single malts. One peaty (Talisker is superb, Laphroig also a good un) and one milder more drinkable one like a Glenmorangie. You can't then get an Irish one too. Maybe even a Thai one if you're pushing the boat out?
I'll pass on the Thai whiskey as I've seen pics of Skiddy. I like single malt. Laphroig and Jura are two of the island malts I've bought over the years. I used to get a Glenfiddich 18 every Christmas but it got expensive and I always piled into it too quickly and suffered for it. I like Glenmorangie. Years ago I did a project with Diageo and ended up with about 100 x 20cl bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label. It's a blend. I asked one of their experts what made it so good that it was so expensive and he basically said it was a bang average whiskey that they'd marketed very successfully as the go to drink for rich, young, City types.
Can't be dealing with that peaty whisky. Has a ****ing god awful aftertaste like a cross between smoked dirt and mouthwash. Give me a nice clean single malt .
