I remember going to see the Pirates post Billy Fury in the pub rock era , they were regulars at the Hope And Anchor in islington , not sure how many in the band survived the Billy Fury days but they were a good RnB act in the Feelgood mould
I don't know that many professianal muso's. Bizarrely, I've known 2 drummers for Jonny Kidd & The Pirates - Clem Cattini (the first) and Roger 'The Truth' Pinner (the last one), sadly now deceased.. Neither would have been in that 70's Pirates line-up. I never saw them but years later, I worked with a bloke who loved them. I used to drink with Roger and he hung around with a couple of blokes who played for Deep Purple - Glover and Simper? I forget.. They were at his funeral and played at The Cherry Trees, South Norwood, recently, for another mate's 50th birthday but I couldn't make that. Roger was a proper East End Spur, who chucked a bit of Yiddish into every sentence he spoke. HATED Arsenal....I mean he really HATED them.
What do you call What do you call a drummer with no girlfriend ?????? Homeless My fail, it was jonny Kidd and the Pirates not Billy fury
Absolutely agree regarding the way that the recordings were produced - I think that even bands like The Who sound very thin and tinny on My Generation and A Quick One, then you get Live At Leeds at the end of the decade to truly define how they really sounded.
An example of that is the Beatles playing Shea Stadium, they only had a PA for the small clubs they used to play and had no monitors along with the screaming from the crowd they couldn't hear themselves, forward a few years and you can see footage of the Greatful Dead playing in front of a PA that looks like a block of flats. The Who at Charlton was one of the loudest outdoor gigs I can remember and the Blue Oyster Cult at Hammersmith Odeon I put down to my permanent hearing damage
I loved the men's clothing in the 70's. Absolute crap today! ….and the "new style" today....leaving one's shirt outside your trousers!!!!!!
Oh those pretty little Japanese girls. I'd like to take them home and put 'em on the mantelpiece!!!!!
HELL,NO!!!... I liked the flair(?) trousers of the 70's.Why don't they bring 'em back instead of jeans with the knees cut. Hate that one!

Mostly, I am still wearing the clothes that I wore 40 something years ago. I intend to grow old disgracefully. I don't own any trainers and mostly wear t shirts, Doctor Martens, biker boots and jackets and jeans. For dressier occasions, I've got one of these babies... please log in to view this image This jacket image is a modern copy off ebay. Mine's a 60's or 70's original. Its twin was up for sale on ebay a few years ago. I think it was £500 but it would cost a lot more to part me from mine. A whole lot more.
