Not politics, just a **** entry, as usual: Fat, out of breath bloke, tunelessly warbling muzak with no act. Ukraine fully embraced the lunacy and came 5th: The UK doesn't give a **** about Eurovision and it shows. Either **** it off or embrace the disdain and send something completely inappropriate.
One day the penny might actually drop: maybe the whole of Europe is aware that the British Eurovision entry is always some X-Factor dropout being handed a song that's been kicking around on a laptop for years that was passed over by every artist and expected to make it work They may as well tell them to run towards a machine gun nest and that the rifle of the man who drops before them will now be their rifle for the hopeless futility of it all
In this case this bloke's the songwriter of said non-hit. James Newman is the brother of John Newman, who has had a few hits and who he also writes with. He's got a bunch of writing credits on songs for more successful artists, who clearly weren't interested in this piece of lift/hold music.
Just booked what looks like being my first gig for 18 months. We're off to see these guys @ The 100 Club on 10 July....the date that we should have been seeing The Damned in Hammersmith. Oh well, it's a gig and there'll be lots of mates and familiar faces there. Can't wait. Here are the guys in rehearsals....
Why do you hate the UK? What do you mean you didn't remember him? The winner was an Italian rock band with a topless singer in bondage gear and pyros out the bumhole? So what?
I guess I am a renegade at heart. I suspect we need the Darkness as camp rock seems to be their thing. This one is not to my taste at all, but a bigger bolder performance than our dirge and you can see why it did better. That and the fact that they hate us obvs.
It's not my thing either and they're clearly not playing their instruments, but rock music's pretty big in Europe and the performance had an impact. Send Iron Maiden. They'd piss it. Alternatively, send Napalm Death or Carcass. They'd lose, but it would be funny. I've seen a lot of people suggesting Alestorm, but I doubt this would pass, somehow:
