At the Stone Valley Festival....Jimmy Pursey is a god...Bob Geldolf is an utter ****er. More tomorrow....
A beautiful day yesterday. A good breakfast was followed by a bit of Dirtbox Disco (excellent) and later Death of Guitar Pop (very good young ska band). Not so good were Secret Affair and Hugh Cornwell. Most people seemed to be here for From The Jam (very good) as a significant number ****ed off as soon they'd finished...leaving the punks and those too drunk to walk to enjoy the stars of the weekend - The Undertones. They were ****ing brilliant. The people camped next to us (not fans of the band) were blown away by just how much they put into it and how tight the sound was. They're out on your very soon. We'll be travelling to Bexhill to see them.... unfortunately, so will Hugh Cornwell. He really was a miserable sod last night. Apparently, Big country/The Skids maybe isolating, Kirk Brandon is added to the bill, so we're sticking around to see if the miserable weather improves. It looks like The Skids/Brandon/Bad Manners will be on during the match, so.....COYS!
Enjoy it while it lasts. Nobody involved is under 60 The Undertones songs still sound so fresh today. Great band.
Sunday at the festival was a real mixed bag. It will surprise very few that The Happy Mondays were rougher than a bear's arse. Like The Rats on Friday, the lead singer's a huge twat. It's a shame that they both closed their respective nights. However, The Skids were very good, as were The Selecter. Having dealt with that, here's some highlights... All in all, a fabulous way to spend a weekend and for £55, A REAL BARGAIN! It was on Rocky's doorstep...he'd have loved it. Cheers, fella.
In less than a year, neither will I be.... Which brings us to Friday night's Cramps tribute act. The really good stuff has its own life.
One of my nieces has just got into music and asked me what my favourite Clash / strummer song was , had to say this but Redemption song was a very close second , she left with an armful of CDs, glad to pass on the baton , remember seeing Joe do this with a band at one of the Green wedge tours in 88 it was more meaning as Me and Mrs Conn had our 3 month old daughter with us , it just hit home
A wonderful night @ The 100 Club last night. We danced and met some great people and it was just like old times. The head in the bottom right of shot belongs to the lovely Shanne Bradley, bassist from The Nips and The Men They Couldn't Hang. She wrote 'Gabrielle', the song after which my youngest daughter is named. When I told her, she nearly cried... 'Ivy' is a Brit and a temporary stand in. Frankly, she looked pretty horrified by the whole thing, unlike the drummer, the other Brit in the line-up, who was loving every second. We spent 15 minutes talking to the the darker dancer, who lives in London part time and was absolutely lovely.
