@BrunelGunner @gooner4ever You both now appear in the league having scored 9 points each on your debut. It's up to you whether you carry on predicting or just fade away over 9 weeks.
ps That's the first time I've ever had a "like" from a Gooner! Gee Thanks, G4E!!! It nearly came exactly true - special thanks for that to AuberMyDeadBody, too!
This week, just for once, I’m indulging my own main musical taste by using a folk song (dedicated to the couriers/delivery drivers of a bygone age!). And because I reckon it’s unlikely anyone will know the words, I’m adding the original lyrics (in the version I used to sing – even once on the stage at Ally Pally! – not identical to the version in the video). As you’ll gather, I’m feeling very cheerful about our prospects right now. Still not a José fan but you don’t have to like the baker to rate the taste of his cakes! When I began supporting Spurs, near eighty years ago, It filled my poor old parents' hearts with sorrow, grief and woe, ’Cos Dad he was a Saint, and Mum a Gooner (yes! I know!)! Chorus: Sing woa, my lads, sing woa! Drive on, my lads, drive on! I’m happy that I’ve always been a Spurs fan good and true! And sometimes standing in the rain, I’d get wet to the skin, But I’d bear it with contented heart, and usually we’d win; And when we did the Double, lads, you should have heard the din! We sang woa, my lads, sang woa! etc The Gooners now are flound’ring, our pleasure you can see! Mourinho’s getting bold, and turning one point into three. The Mankies and the Scouser boys are shakin’ at the knee! Sing woa, my lads, sing woa! etc Aye, things is greatly altered now Mourinho holds the reins: And ev’ry match the goals pour in for Son and Harry Kane - And at this rate we’re lining up the Double once again! Sing woa, my lads, sing woa! etc The Palace game is coming on, our hopes are now sky high! Like chaff before the wind, my lads, we'll make the Eagles fly; ’Cos Kane and Son will score one each and Dier will make it three! And sing woa! Me lads, sing woa! etc Prediction: Palace 0 Spurs 3 Scorers: Kane, Son, Dier Cheers, Spurf! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Jolly Waggoner When first I went a-waggoning, a-waggoning did go, It tore my poor old parents' hearts with sorrow, grief, and woe And many are the hardships that I must undergo. Chorus: Sing whoa my lads, sing whoa, drive on my lads, drive on Who wouldn't be for all the world a jolly waggoner. And when it's belting down with rain I get wet to the skin But I bear it with contented heart until I reach the inn And I sit down a-drinking with the landlord and his kin. The times they are a-changing and waggons few are seen The world's turned topsy-turvy, lads, and things is run by steam, And the whole world passes before me - just like a morning dream. Aye, things is greatly altered now but then what can we do? For the folks in power don’t take much heed of the likes of me nor you! It's hardship for us working lads, and fortune for the few. But Martinmas is coming, lads, what pleasures then we’ll see: Like chaff before the wind, my lads, we'll make our money flee! And every lad shall have his lass and he'll take her on his knee!
"You don't have to like the baker to rate the taste of his cakes" excellent Audrey. Loved the song too. Wish I'd seen you sing it at the Ally Pally! You can't beat the old ones, not in my book anyway...COYS
