http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2015/december/08/head-coach-update So, Stuart Gray is confirmed as Senior Coach, while Rigg states that 'the search for a permanent Head Coach goes on'. Gray and Steve Wigley will take charge against Brentford. Shambles.
Apologies Captain - I was busy "working" on my post while you clearly already had the business done. As mentioned in mine the word "interim" leaves an awful lot up in the air. Either Rigg has a master plan or he's just making it up as he goes along. I know which of those choices my 5p would be on.
A bit of Gray history: While playing for Southampton he scored in an FA Cup game against Manchester United (in February 1992), a goal which led to a little piece of history being created. It secured a 2-2 draw and led to the first ever penalty shoot-out featuring top flight sides - which Southampton won.
Another bit of Gray history - His first managerial role lasted just three months. Handed the reins as caretaker at Southampton after Glenn Hoddle left for Spurs in March 2001, he was made permanent manager in June but had been bombed out by September. Despite his brief tenure, he still managed to break the Southampton's transfer record when he shelled out £4m on Rory Delap.
More Gray history - He has previous! As a 'caretaker' that is, not in the colloquial sense. Indeed he has been quite successful as a caretaker manager, with win percentages of 50 per cent from his short spells in the hot seat at Wolves (three wins from six), Burnley (two wins from four) and Portsmouth (three wins from six). That sequence was only broken by his two games in charge of Aston Villa in 2002, which were both drawn. He has also acted as assistant to other caretaker managers, one of whom was a certain Kit Symons , in his Crystal Palace days.
The trying harder bit of Gray history - He led Sheffield Wednesday through 11 unbeaten games as caretaker manager.
Just reported you are about to offer the job to Garry Monk!!! Good luck, I hope enjoy one goal a game and backs to the wall defending for 80 minutes a game. We've ben been known to defend a 1 - 0 deficit. Although we had some decent results last season the football, on the whole, was shocking. From the outside it looks like short-termism from us but we have just reached the natural conclusion of having Monk as manager. Alienated the players and trained them into the position of being too drained to perform in games.
Cheers Bob. Very underwhelming but would like to be proved wrong. Is he just another Kit? I'd prefer a Murphy and Ancelloti combo!
He likes to give the impression he knows everything. The players 'made it known' that Monk taking credit for success and blaming everyone else for failure 'irritated' them. Over the years he's caused a lot of trouble behind the scenes but has enough support to get his own way. Last season was successful as Fabianski had a great season and the team was mainly made players who had been there before he took over. Well over half our points came from games where we failed to score or scored 1 goal. This season is his team and boy does it stink! Check out JackArmy site for a more representative view of Monk - a couple of other thought he was chocolate because he undermined our Danish and Portuguese managers. Good luck for the season, it would be good to visit the Cottage again (in the PL).
What I don't understand about the Gray situation is 1. He is a Senior coach only...Will the Headcoach when he comes in have to work with him and not bring in his preferred staff ? 2. He is on a match to match basis...why would someone leave Wednesday to take up that ? If he didn't know who was going to be in charge. 3. So far in a 30 odd days the players will have had 3 different coaches trying to sort our defense out Didn't see much to say anything has changed from one coach to another. Total Shambles... The only positive I've found is that some Wednesday fans seem to respect what he did at their club.
Don't you think our new boss has an awkward name? Can't bring myself to simply refer to him as "Stuart", nor do I feel comfortable calling him "Gray" and going longhand all the time is a bore. Anybody got any ideas for a (decent) short version or a nickname?
