That's not his market value though. That's what Norwich valued him at. We wouldn't even consider 25mill for JWP as he's worth well more than that to us.
JWP is worth more than 25 mil IMO. He’s one of the most consistent midfielders in the league. I think his market value is probably 30-35ish, but we wouldn’t ever accept that. His long contract bumps the numbers up significantly. I’m so happy we are having to have this chat in a way though. He’s been amazing for us for a long time. Glad the wider world is starting to notice him as more than just a free kick merchant.
He does a lot of the donkey work in midfield, winning the ball feeding it on and setting up attacks all the things that say Lemina never did, it may not be flashy but he has his free kicks to show off. Every team needs a JWP.
Yep. He really bites into tackles and influences the game now. Proper leader. Proper player. Love him. Thought he was solid for England tonight as well. The commentators were praising him too
If we got £55m for him, and were allowed to invest all of that into new players. Would it be worth it?
With £55m we would need to buy an equal quality JWP replacement + another first team quality player to make it worthwhile. The real question is, do you trust the club to do that? I definitely don't.
Well probably not, no. And my own answer to my question is also probably no. But it's not the end of the world if that did happen.
I'd take that without even thinking about it tbh. £20m on a new CM £15m on a back up FB £20m off the loan If people think that we're in a position to be turning down £50m+ offers for players who aren't exceptional then I'm not sure they've realised the true extent of our financial plight tbh.
Can say that about every signing to be fair mate. This isn't Toni Kroos or Roy Keane we're talking about. We absolutely are not in a position to be turning down offers of £50m+ for players. Not that I think that'll ever come in for JWP.
Problem is we did this with Van Dijk and in that one instance replaced our most important player with multiple failures and were worse off, i'd bank on that happening again. and while Prowse isn't a Van Dijk level player (not many are), it would take us the whole amount to get another player of Prowse's stature, which undoes the benefit of any transfer.
He may not be worth it, but due to his importance to Saints i'd say if no one is willing to bid that amount then we shouldn't sell him under any circumstances.
