I reckon Nixon’s Sunderland source was Tony Coton. He used to get loads of stuff on us. Clearly gets nothing now. Only mentions is when it’s come from the other side
I would reckon you're right there. Most journalists rely on contacts with agents or from clubs directly. I've heard stuff over the years that said there were people in the club leaking stuff to the press, I can believe Coton was the latest to do it. Goes to show how little journos genuinely know.
Nixon covering the bases, wins either way. He goes, he said, he doesn’t go, the bid wasn’t high enough/didn’t make an improved offer. Very clever.
I'm as positive as they come but I'm officially changing my status from relaxed to starting to get concerned. I realise we are possibly playing hard ball on wages and transfer fees but what if others don't budge, im worried we are going to get a few days left in the window still needing to do some business. A slow start and a early draws or defeats would really get the season off on a negative note. I really thought we would have came out of the traps quicker and would have done plenty of impressive business by now.
Up to now those we’ve brought in and those we are supposed to be chasing haven’t got me to raise an eye brow yet never mind get me excited, never heard of any of them. Just go out and buy a top championship team you tight wad.
It's all about fitting the players into a team structure rather than buying supposed big named players. You can already see the style we are aiming for and I'm loving it.
Can’t believe how poor the squad currently looks with the season starting a week on Saturday. Sort it out.
So there are no supposed big name players who fit into the style we are aiming for?! I am suspicions that what this means to the club is; for fitting in to team structure read 'sustainable' and for sustainable read 'cheap'.
Agree we can see the style and it's vert agreeable. Shame we haven't enough players to put this into practice when the season starts. Lots of work still to do sadly.
We won't have heard of the majority of signings I'd imagine. That's actually a positive if they are younger. I'm sick and tired of signing players on the way down.
What is it with people obsessing about signing household names? We've done this so often in the past, with little or no success, so I would much rather trust the new recruitment strategy, rather than hanker after 'well known' has beens, journeymen or mercenaries. I have no doubt that the club will recruit some little known gems. We just need to be patient and let the process take its course.
I think the only household names we've been linked with this window is Leigh Griffiths and Djibril(?) Cisse
