Reports on line state Wigan offered Wyke £10k per week, serious wedge for a league 1 team, he is 28 and Sunderland didn't want to match the offer to keep him with them.
I think Abdulrahman Al-Jasmi is making a statement to the Wigan fans, good luck to them. League 1 this coming season will have a few clubs with serious financial clout behind them.
They are definitely rolling the dice, but it's a risky roll. I wouldn't want to be trying to get out of L1 this coming season
Couple of mackem supporting mates say the same..... Before he decided to let his deal run down too. "scores goals but awful footballer" seems to have been a recurring criticism.
Maybe it is. Looked dangerous enough to me in the highlights, but it doesnt change the fact he wasnt un-questioningly loved in Sunderland and some of their fans feel he had his limitations.
Honeyman was described to me as a 'ratter with no quality' when we signed him. Sweet watchng them eat their words last season. They might have had a point about Super Paul McShane's passing ability and creative flair mind, but thats not why we loved him!
Even a broken clock is right twice a day. It's not unbelievable that someone can score goals in League 1 and still be a cack footballer. Wyke was probably Sunderland's Tom Eaves.
Think his approach play was deemed to be questionable and relied too heavily on McGeady if i recall their bitter excuses for another season of failure. Haha!
Oh I don’t disagree Lineker wasn’t a good footballer but a great goal scorer But I would certainly be keeping a player who can score that many
