Isn’t it about 40p an hour in St Mary’s which is pretty much next door to M&S..? Not really enough to put you off visiting surely?
80p mate, i think last time I used it, but your argument holds As against doing a round trip of say 10 mile to shop in Washington in your car
When I worked in Exeter, I had to visit Nissan and one of our salesmen came with me, I made him book in The Roker hotel as I did, he didnt even realise we had a beach He was quite impressed, I know its not the city centre but it shows the perception some people have, I also spoke to a lad down there who supports Exeter Chiefs and came up to see them play the egg chasing skunks. He was advised by skunk supporters not to go to Sunderland as its full of druggies and you will get mugged, special breed those ****ers, they must hate any investment in the region, unless its in skunk city
There’s just not enough going on to entice people to the town, I used to go now and again after picking the kids up from school. It was free parking and something to do, wander round the few shops that were still open, including M&S, or go for a coffee. Although most of the coffee shops started to close at 4 so not worth it. Parking at St Mary’s on an afternoon also meant wandering past the little ****s hanging around McDonalds though, which I don’t like when with my bairns. I actually think that’s part of the reason M&S aren’t arsed about staying open. It’s quite often a **** tip with food wrappers lying around. Not exactly in line with their image. Although parking isn’t a lot it just seems like scrapping the free parking after 3 is another thing to put people off going to the town. It should have been extended, not cancelled.
You think Sunderland City centre is bad, I'm in Bridgend, south Wales for the week. Welcome to the land that Time forgot crossed with an apocalypse
Haha, I have been there once and looking at your description, I have to ask, do you work in a marketing role for Bridgend council?
I actually went to visit the council and had a member of the revenue protection team with me, and he said "We are in the wrong place John, this is worlds end!"
It seems to me that the town is being moved over to echo 24 area and as you say across the river to the sheepfolds. So the old bit will close bit by but because there's simply no need for it all anymore. Development is clear everywhere, it just makes the parts they're moving away from look worse. I agree, online will takeover full stop.
if I recall Bridgend had a terrible spate of young suicides a few years ago, it was quite worrying at the time cos it was way above the national average.
It was about 8ish years ago, unfortunately there where an awful lot of young kids that couldn't see a way out. Things have got better, hut there is quite rhe undercurrent around these parts and it's a shame
Picked up is a very lose term, there is probably a generation lost down here, who don't see a way out unless it's on the dole and play the system while getting smashed on cheap booze or drugs
Also the ridiculous bank operating hours Ha ha not at all but it’s not going to be on the doorstep of a McDonald’s
This is exactly what I meant. People have a picture of urban decay and blokes in flat caps with whippets. Our city has a lot to offer and in a few years time will have a lot more when the riverside development is complete. We have a lovely beach, a monument which was here long before the Angel of the Fu****g North. Herrington Park for gigs and great surrounding countryside. Anyone from Sunderland who has a downer on it, should visit some other cities. There's a load of ****holes out there.
