Sunderland host Manchester City (U21s) in the Checkatrade Trophy Last time out Sunderland drew with Scunthorpe and Manchester City U21 lost at Arsenal. Ethan Robson could make his return from injury in the Checkatrade Trophy next Tuesday. Robson has endured a hugely frustrating season, missing since October due to injury. The 22-year-old has trained fully with the Black Cats this week and will step his recovery next week whether it be with the first team or the U23s. Jack Ross: "He's (Ethan Robson) trained the full week, this week, which is good," "I'm pleased, I've said often enough how much I like him. He's had a frustrating season. We've got an U23 game on Monday and then obviously the Checkatrade Trophy game on Tuesday.” "We just need to make a decision on which one he is involved in. If he is involved with us, then it will probably only be from the bench because he has been out for a long time." "We've had times when we've been short in central midfield and then there's been the other Checkatrade games as well. "Then with this game coming up, we've got the situation where Bali Mumba is suspended for being a midfield enforced and picking up two yellow cards... "This tournament continues to throw up interesting scenarios." Paul Harsley: “It doesn’t get easier. No disrespect to Barnsley or Rochdale, but this is going to be the biggest test they’ve ever come across. Whatever way it goes, it’s going to stretch them and that’s what we want." “When we got the draw against Sunderland we knew ‘this couldn’t get any harder’. Our focus is solely on getting something from this Sunderland game, and we know it’s going to be the toughest game of the season.” Team Line ups Sunderland: Ruiter, Matthews, Ozturk, Baldwin, Oviedo, McGeouch, O’Nien, Cattermole, Watmore, Wyke, Kimpioka Subs: Stryjek, James, Dunne, Diamond, McGeady, Robson, Maguire, Maja Injured: Love, Hume, Loovens Suspended: Mumba Manchester City: My two pence: This side will be a good test to see where we are in terms of the quality of our squad. The City U21 team play exactly like their first team, tippy tappy football and can run rings round the opposition. However we should have a lot more experience in the team and should be stronger over the 90 minutes. My guess is a 3-2 home win. We need to be brighter than we were yesterday and if we are then we should have enough to progress. A close game us to win 2-1.
I am at Heathrow right now on way back to see family, especially my grand children so I’ll manage to get two games in. 2morrow and the week-end for my twice yearly fix. Hoping for a result from both to keep me Going till next visit. KTF
If we cannot beat an U21 team, albeit with a team with some reserves and youngsters of our own, it’ll be tough to accept. Get in amongst them and our superior strength should tell. We cannot allow them to tippy-tappy us off the park, or it’s gonna be a long night. Am expecting a comfy win in the end, though the goals might come late. 3-1 to the lads. Bart
Looking at the op... let me get this right... if you pick up 2 yellow cards you miss the next game? But if you are serving a suspension from a first team game, you are not entitled to play in this but you also cannot chalk one of the games off? Utterly ****ing stupid
Ethan Robson will return to the first-team fold when Sunderland host Manchester City Under-21s on Tuesday evening. The midfielder has missed three months after limping off in the Lads’ 3-1 win over Carlisle United in October, but has battled his since way back to fitness. Denver Hume, meanwhile, is also back in training following a prolonged spell in the treatment room, after requiring surgery on a knee injury suffered in September. Speaking to safc.com, Ross provided the latest news from within the camp. "Ethan will be involved with me in the squad tomorrow," said Ross. "He hasn't played since the Checkatrade game against Carlisle in October, but he will be in the squad and will hopefully get some game time tomorrow." He continued: "Denver is back training. "He had joined in with little bits of training, and from this week he is back in full training again. "This will be his first week back in full training after being out since the end of September, but he has looked good - fit and strong. "But naturally, with being out for so long, he will have a couple of weeks at least of full training before we get him involved in games."
Doubtful, he ran his socks off just last night. He'll be too fatigued to play apart. Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
This will be a tough test, but it comes at a good time as they have a bit of a crisis with their fixtures, we may just get through this one, hope so, but 3-1 will do me.
I've decided we will get to Wembley even if the refs have to help us enormously. I base this logic on the FA being greedy c*nts and they know we would easily take 50000 to Wembley. Money, money, money. F*ck the football, better team etc it all boils down to hard cash. Maybe I am nervous as f*ck cos I think the final beckons and I am looking forward to a weekend on the lash in Laaandaaan.
