Our tactics were rubbish today. I'm sorry but our midfield was completely crowded out; we lacked any natural width. If your going to play Torres then we should have played a flat 4-4-2. This would have given us the width we needed. Liverpool were also only using wing backs. This would mean we could of had 2 on 1 situations. There players would of been pulled out of position to cover, leaving gaps for our players to exploit. At the end of the day the tactics were rubbish. Nothing our players could do about it.
Your players should be taking the blame too though, with a strike force of Anelka, Torres and Drogba rotating at the front - you should have been able to press on and score plenty. Despite all of your expensive signings, you still haven't managed to pick out a player like Kuyt or Lucas - Kuyt and lucas may not be the best technically minded players, but they'll always chase a ball, and they'll sprint their way down the length of the pitch for a lost cause.
Chelsea have a history of doing poorly against teams who come and park the bus, however its something they have to address and it was a poor performance against a mediocre liverpool team.
You think we parked the bus with 3 central defenders? That's right, we played a 3-5-2, not exactly a 6-2-2 is it, which is what you'd expect if a team parks the bus. Anyway as you quite rightly stated you got beaten by a mediocre (in our standards) liverpool team. You've still got to play Man city, Spurs and Man United twice yet this season, I'll so laugh when you're playing on Thursday nights next season, especially after all your fan's goading.
You had seven players behind the ball all afternoon so how you reckon it was 3-5-2 is laughable You know how good Torres can be and after Carlo has restored the lads confidence after playing dull inferior football for so long he will quickly repay his transfer fee.
Errr... you can check it on the internet if you want, but we did in fact play a 3-5-2 with Kelly and Johnson on the wings. Torres will never repay his transfer fee. He's got what.. 5 years left in him? You think he's going to be worth 10m a season for you? He wasn't worth 10m a season for us, and it doesn't look like he's getting any better any time soon.
Oh so bitter You may have published the intention of playing 3-5-2 but it with 7 players constantly behind the ball what you played in reality was the 'Coach Driver System' Torres will come back to haunt your stupid bitter comments
Liverpool played with 2 very attacking wingbacks and Gerrard, Lucas and Mereiles, 3 attacking midfielders Not really parking the bus.
Agree with O/P We need to be in a 4 4 2 incorporating width, & stretching sides If we can't do width with Ash overlapping Malouda & Luiz assisting Anelka - it's a poor do frankly Al the other top sides have got width in abundance & are employing it as such carlo said in the paper he is intending to re-use the same formation at Fulham next Monday....worrying if true
