It will be interesting to see if the second part of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale holds up as well as the first. The quality of lots on offer is definitely lower, but this is by no means a bad sale. 832 lots have been catalogued for the 3 day sale (11-13 October) and 132 individual sires are represented, including 19 based in the USA and 1 based in Australia. There is just 1 GALILEO in this catalogue, and following on from his performance at last weekâs sale (4 of the Top 5 lots sold were by Galileo) it is not unreasonable to assume that this colt, Lot 1201, (a half-brother to 2 winners, out of a half-sister to G1 winner MOON BALLAD) will be in demand. The stand out lots on offer include : Day One Lot 516 â filly by PIVOTAL/CARO GEORGE â dam half-sister to Irish 2,000 Guineas winner BACHELOR DUKE Lot 531 â colt by ROCK OF GIBRALTAR/CHORIST â dam G1 winner & twice G1 placed Lot 546 â colt by KYLLACHY/CONFETTI â dam from immediate family of 3 time Gr1 winner GOLDEN APPLES Lot 566 â filly by MOUNT NELSON/DANCING MIRAGE â half-sister to G1 placed, G3 winner OUQBA Lot 567 â colt by NAYEF/DANEHILL DREAMER â dam unraced half-sister to G1 winners SUMMONER & COMPTON ADMIRAL Lot 570 â colt by DUKE OF MARMALADE/DANSEUSE DU SOIR â half-brother to G1 winner SCINTILLO, dam dual G1 winner Lot 595 â filly by GREEN DESERT/DOROTHEA BROOKE â half-sister to G2 winners PRIMO VALENTINO & DORA CARRINGTON Lot 597 â filly by DUKE OF MARMALADE/DOWAGER â from immediate family of GRAND LODGE (a Shamardal colt out of a half-sister to the dam sold for 350,000 last week) Lot 603 â colt by MANDURO/DUST DANCER â half-brother to US G2 winner SPOTLIGHT & TYRANNY (dam of G1 winner ZOFFANY) Lot 677 â filly by ROCK OF GIBRALTAR/GEMS OF ARABY â dam half-sister to G1 winners TIMEPIECE & PASSAGE OF TIME, further family of ALL AT SEA Lot 684 â colt by ELUSIVE CITY/GLAMADOUR â dam half-sister to GOLDIKOVA & GALIKOVA, et al. Lot 701 â colt by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT/GRIZEL â half-brother to US Gr2 winner WHATSTHESCRIPT Lot 712 â colt by SAKHEEâS SECRET/HAPPY LADY â half-brother to German 1,000 Guineas (G2) winner PENNYâS GIFT Lot 721 â colt by AUTHORIZED/HENTIES BAY â first foal out of unraced half-sister to ZIETEN, BLUE DUSTER & SLOW JAZZ Lot 747 â colt by CAPE CROSS/ISNâT IT DELICIOUS â dam from immediate family of MIESQUE, KINGMAMBO, RUMPLESTILTSKIN, et al Lot 769 â filly by MARJU/KAZATZKA â ¾ sister in blood to SOVIET SONG Lot 781 â colt by MR GREELEY/KUSHNARENKOVO â dam G3 winning sister to BRIAN BORU & KITTY OâSHEA and half-sister to dam of WORKFORCE Iâve run out of time to finish writing the rest of the sale up, but will do so tomorrow.
Sale is now live here: http://www.tattersalls.com/4DCGI/Sale/Live The catalogue can be seen in full here: http://docs.tattersalls.com/cat/october2/oct2011b2.pdf Top lot so far, lot 520 which sold for 67,000.
Although there are no blockbuster prices being made today, the sales stats are stacking up pretty impressively. At the last check, the sale had an 85% clearance rate (85% of horses offered have changed hands) and the average and median prices are both up 17% on the same day last year, so far.
Thats an impressive set of figures, its good to see the industry building back up again. Cheers for these updates PN.
Yesterday’s Day One of the Book 2 sale undoubtedly belonged to Rathbarry’s ACCLAMATION, who was responsible for the top three lots on the day (Lots 743 @ 180,000, 695 making 165,000 and 698 making 160,000). The final clearance rate on the day was 84.7% (248 catalogued, 210 sold) compared to 70.1% in 2010 and the average price rose from 32,651 in 2010 to 41,514. The sale resumed this morning at 10am and can be watched live here: http://www.tattersalls.com/4DCGI/Sale/Live The sale got off to a strong start with the first lot through the ring (Lot 787) making 150,000. However, Coolmore made what is possibly their cheapest ever purchase when paying just 6,000 for Lot 791, a colt by Rock of Gibraltar!

Top lot is now Lot 857, a Shamardal colt, already named MESHARDAL, knocked down to Peter & Ross Doyle (so likely for Richard Hannon) for 220,000.
The trade at Tattersalls is still utterly amazing, with the clearance rate now at 90% and the average price still up a huge 11% on last year. Anyone with a SAKHEE'S SECRET yearling/foal must be rubbing their hands with glee. From 36 yearlings offered at sale so far this year, 34 have found new homes for an average price of £29,177. His average at Tattersalls over the last week has been just shy of £40,000, all from a modest fee of £6,500. According to the Racing Post, Whitsbury Manor Stud (who stand Sakhee's Secret) have retained a colt by the sire who is a half-brother to Prix de l'Abbaye winner GILT EDGE GIRL. They've described him as "a pocket rocket" - watch this space!
Thanks for the updates Princess. I managed to get a quick view of the last few live the other day. Just started to watch live now.
Glad you're enjoying it Ron! From Tattersalls: End of Day Two Statistics: with 248 horses sold from 219 offered on Day 2 of Book 2 of the October Yearling Sale, the strong clearance rates were maintained from day 1 and ended up at unprecedented 88 per cent. The main sales statistics continued to show improvement on 2010 - the average being up 13 per cent at 39,653gns, the median was 30,000gns (up 13 per cent on 2010) while the aggregate was 8,684,000gns, an increase of 19 per cent. We're back underway for today's final session: http://www.tattersalls.com/4DCGI/Sale/Live
The highest Book 2 price for 3 years is acheived when Lot 1156 sells to the HOng Kong Jockey Club for 260,000. The son of Exceed and Excel is out of a half-sister to Flashmans Papers.
PN, I have backed some horses that have run like cows, but this is the first that actually looks like one too
Certainly no need to worry about the jockey's silks with that one! He's by a rare coloured Thoroughbred called I WAS FRAMED. The stallion has been around for a few years, but covers very few mares as he has no real pedigree and was unraced. His oldest crop are now 4 but he's yet to sire a winner. The stallion is owned by Mette Campbell-Andeneas who has had some success as an owner and now part owns COCKNEY REBEL
