Team for Wigan and Blackburn?

Wigan this weekend and the last 16 of the Carling Cup follows, how should we rotate our team then (bear in mind there's an international break shortly)?

I'm thinking:

Wigan -

Krul
Simpson Taylor Colo Raylor
Obertan Tiote Cabaye Jonas
Shola Ba​

I can see this happening, Shola did very well and even though he wont keep it up, he did score and Best has gone 3 without scoring now. Also, with the greatest respect, it's only Wigan.

Blackburn -

Harper
Simpson Taylor Colo Santon
Tiote Gosling
Obertan Ben Arfa Marveaux
Best​

Full games for Santon and Ben Arfa, with a chance for both to get 100% fit and stake a proper claim to be in the side. Williamson still not fit and I wouldnt bring Perch or Ferguson into defence against Hoillett in particular. Cabaye played the last 2 cup games and Blackburn took him out of the game a bit when we played in the league. Also, Guthrie left the stadium yesterday when he found out he wasnt playing and I dont like that.


Thoughts?

 

Shola didn't just score, he scored a cracker.

 

I wouldn't start Shola, start with Best and Ba and let Shola come on as an impact sub

 

Not good about Guthrie for starters.

As for the team selections, I think Colo or Taylor could maybe do with a rest and the Blackburn game might be a good opportunity to give one of them a break.

I like both of these teams and think they would stand a very good chance of winning both games, although maybe rest Tiote as well/instead for the Blackburn game as he is the more likely to pick up a needless booking but otherwise good post are you pardew in diguise?

 

I wish we could give Colo in particular a game off but Williamson is still about two weeks away so it's Perch or nothing. I'd definitely take him off for Perch if we were leading by 2 or 3 after an hour though.

As for Tiote, he's been quite good so far, only 2 yellows.

 

I agree with all except, Obertan against Wigan.

Would like to see Marveaux, Obertan has proven he has no end product, I remember yesterday when Obertan was 5 yards free and he had Shola and Hatem in the box, instead of putting a cross, he passed it to the keeper(trying to put in a cross).

I cant imagine Marveaux doing well on the right in a 4 man midfield, just doesnt fit for me. But then I wouldnt be surprised or upset to see Obertan dropped, I just think he's worth persevering with.

No start for Shola. I think I'd allow Best an off game. I have a feeling Pardew will start Benny instead of Best against Wigan.

Unchanged besides Best out for Shola, as it's still great team, and Pardew seems unwilling to change it, but i feel his love of Shola will just nudge Best out.

Ferguson, Marveaux and Sammy need some playing time. Colo's good enough to cover for him and Perch and i felt Perch was average enough in the last game to justify a start. Krul because Rob Elliott had an absolute 'mare last time and this is a Premiership team who should be better going forward than Forest. I feel because of this we need to play this slightly stronger team, possibly bring Cabaye on at some point (for Tiote, or Ferguson and change formation) as well as Ba (for the poorer striker) and Abeid (possibly for HBA)

Agree. Especially against Blackburn the height advantage will be useful with Sammy and Vuckic.

If anyone deserves a chance to start that isn't currently, it's Marveaux. He's been great. He's the reason we're still in the cup, and he's been working hard and doing well in the reserves.

We need someone that will put in a good cross from the right. I'm not saying Marv is 100% going to do this, but he deserves a chance to prove himself. Bring Ober on as an impact sub for Marv after 60 mins, bring HBA and Shola on for 15-20 mins.

Not another flaming international week. Whens this one

 

Guthrie can't expect to just walk back into the side. He got injured in pre season which fair enough, has messed his chances up a bit but the same has happened to Shane to. He has to work for that spot and frankly if he's going to act like that about it he can go with my blessing.
