3 feet high and rising is still one of the most groundbreaking records ever. I bought it on cassette when it came out and even tried to fill out and send off the answers to the spoof quiz that punctuates the album.
I dont like Tears for Fears, they are dull as ****. Drum and Bass is for people who were thick as ****, took ecstacy and went around threatening to stab people in the 90's if they didnt give them a twos on their B&H Sovereigns. They all wore Dreamscape jackets, had greasy curtains and acne and most of them now work on building sites and/or are currently in prison.
My dad was there! I remember him telling me about it (I am from MK). He loved Clannad, and Hendrix and Black Sabbath (probably where I get my eclectic taste from).
Saw them first at Nene College (as it was) in Northampton in 1981 ... me and one of my cousin's were then hooked and we followed them throughout the 80s
The mud sliding was off the scale ... was quite sunny when we first arrived in the morning and we even had a pint at a pub in the sunshine ... then the fookin heavens erupted ... there were a couple of scallies with estate cars that opened up the backs and had boxes and boxes of disposable plastic hoodies - they must have made a small fortune.
Massive Attack - Blue Lines is also hugely ground breaking. Not sure if that was 1990 though? Off the top of my head.
The worst mud I have experienced is at Glastonbury. I used to get in for free by going under the fence by the Orchard (avoiding the scousers trying to get people in for a £10 by climbing their ladders ) Anyway, getting in for free, requires some stealth, so I used to rock up in the middle of the night and get in under the cover of darkness, then pitch my tent and bingo, you're in. Anyway, remember getting on one year, stumbling around in the dark putting up my tent, then eating a bag of mushrooms and going off into the night to party. It started pissing down during the night, and if anybody has ever been to a wet festival, you will know that there is nowhere to sit down, so you just carry on dancing. Around 6am I was done, so made my way back to my tent through the mud. When I got to my tent I opened up the zip and was confronted with all my stuff floating on around 3 inches of muddy brown water. I zipped the tent back up, ate some more mushrooms and went back to the dance tent
