http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-14359481 Wales footballer Ched Evans has been charged with rape. The 22-year-old striker, who has 22 caps for his country, was arrested after an alleged incident in Rhyl, Denbighshire on 31 May. North Wales Police confirmed he and another man will appear before Prestatyn magistrates on 8 August. Mr Evans made a statement through his legal team on his club Sheffield United's website, although the Blades would not comment further. The £3m-star's legal team said: "We wish to confirm that Ched Evans has this week been charged with an offence of rape by the North Wales Police. "Ched has decided voluntarily to make this information public as he wishes to express his extreme shock and disappointment at having been charged with this offence." The statement added that he wished to strenuously deny the charge, would be looking to clear his name and was confident he would be acquitted and entirely vindicated. The St Asaph-born striker made his Wales debut from the bench and scored the winner in the 1-0 friendly win over Iceland in May 2008. He came through the trainee ranks at Premier League side Manchester City before spending time on loan at Norwich City. After returning to the Etihad Stadium, he was later sold to Sheffield United in 2009 for £3m but could not save the club from relegation to League One last season. The club are prepared to sell Mr Evans for less than their £1.5m valuation to reduce the club's wage bill and has been linked with Championship sides Ipswich, Cardiff and Middlesbrough. He was not involved in Sunday's pre-season friendly with Blackpool. A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "A 22-year-old man from Crewe and a 22-year-old man from Rhyl have both been charged with rape. "Both men were arrested on suspicion of rape on 31 May and were charged with the offence on Tuesday, 26 July. "Both have been bailed to appear before Prestatyn magistrates on Monday, 8 August." What a scumbag. Another young footballer throwing it away.
Sorry - were you there? Did you see the alleged offence take place? Ever heard of innocent until proven guilty? BTW if he is found guilty he should have his knob chopped off!
Even those found guilty are not always guilty. In cases like rape you'll never know for sure whether it was or it wasn't.
with footballers i take each case with a pinch, yeah you get some marlon kings but most of the time the women are after a payoff.
Mike you stupid bastard, it says quite clearly that he's made this information public himself, that he's only been charged and that he's yet to be trialled and sentenced.
Got charged though, the police tend to tread carefully with rape charges. They only charge when they have a decent chance of a conviction otherwise it is public money down the drain.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-12664581 this guy was charged, then he was tried and convicted by the press, then had all charges dropped! bit dangerous to make assumptions without all the information.
Regardless of guilt or innocence - I am glad the club didn't go for a player who has ended up going through this so soon before the start of the new season. Can't be good for a team either a) suspecting a team mate guilty of such a bad crime, or b) seeing a team mate accused of something you believe him innocent of. It's a bad state of affairs whatever you believe. The fact he's had this hanging over him since May, could also explain why he's still at Sheffield Utd. He's a championship quality player. He shouldn't be in league one. Let's hope the right outcome is found quickly.
And even those found not guilty are not always "not guilty". An acquittal usually means the jury just couldn't be arsed to listen.
He was never charged, he was arrested. There's a massive difference. Rape cases are very difficult. It's very hard to prove which is why so many go unreported or never make it to court.
When it comes to charges, decisions to charge, the dropping of charges, and any related terms to be honest - some people watch far too much television, and especially American television.
Corry Evans big bro had these rape allegations too didnt he? I'm glad the Murdoch press is unravelling and the culture of these slappers trying to make a buck from shagging footballers or accusing them of all sorts is going to take a big knock. Not saying they are all innocent by any means but just sick of seeing the likes of Rooneys hookers in the press and Giggs fancywoman, awful tarts the lot of them!
Oh dear, it's the women's fault! It takes two to tango, and as we've seen these particular characters can't seem to keep "it" in their trousers, not only once but many times. Even if the women flaunt themselves, then these "so-called husbands" and "family men" should have better standards. Oh, how foolish of me!! What about the standards of the wives who put up with it? Aren't they also being mercenary?
You must have seen these ladies in the papers joanna, they are not very classy at all and out to make a quick buck. I feel sorry for decent footballers wives of course, like Mrs Rooney, but she has been paid back royally from whatever Mr Rooneys been up to
