I can't see any other result either, but from a "keeping the championship interesting" perspective, a Hamilton retirement would certainly be appreciated! Realistically though I can't see him doing anything but continue to extend his advantage for the rest of the season. If he wins the title by less than the current margin, I'd be utterly gobsmacked.
I agree . I would love it to go down to the last race , but , at the moment , I can't see that happening .
I'll be controversial then and say Vettel to win. Hamilton 2nd though so not much gained. Ferrari should be bringing their new engine so will have a little more to fight the Mercedes grunt. And there's a good mix or slow and high speed corners to play to both teams strengths.
The prediction oracle has spoken. The result is all but confirmed! I still think he's fiddling the polls.
Just read an interesting thought elsewhere. Given relatively stable regulations through to 2021, you'd expect Mercedes to maintain their position as the team to beat for that period. That's 4 titles available, and around 65 races. Would you bet against Hamilton picking up all 4 titles, plus 32 race wins to pass Schumacher?
Wins, I'd say it's possible. But I can't see him getting the titles. Ferrari is bound to get one soon, and if Renault come good that also brings in McLaren.
Clearly Lewis is in a very strong position for this years championship, but I think the title could be decided by the performance of Mercedes & Ferrari's number 2 drivers? If either Kimi or Valtieri really step up to the plate then things can change very quickly?
Malaysia should be a stronger track for Merc's compared to the last one.. But given the flipping of form this season, who knows which team this suits, the Red Bulls should do will in Sector 2 but do they have enough grunt in Sectors 1 and 3? Ferrari with a new engine? Will that help close the gap on Merc's current power advantage? Ferrari have gone more aggressive on their tyre choice, more SS than Merc, if they can get the SS to last on the long runs, could be another factor. Then again, Merc's have good speed on the Softs and recently have been able to make them last, could be a battle of SS, Soft, SS for Ferrari against, SS, Soft, Soft for the Merc's.. So, who wins, who knows, Merc may have the slight edge but I wouldn't be surprised to see Vettel and Ferrari take this race, in the end, all we really want is a good race with the main rivals up at the front!
We can all wish for a close championship, but its pretty much over. Merc have the best package and currently the best or most inform driver, the fact that his lead is not bigger to date is probably the bigger surprise. I think Ferrari will be competitive, but cant see them beating the Merc and Bottas will be no threat to Lewis.
well, he's been very lucky with reliability this year, but now we are getting to the sharp end of the season and the engine parts are probably a bit worn, it only takes a win one side and a bad weekend the other for it to get close again. Of course, if it's the red team that get the problems then it's all over.
