Looks to be returning. He was a constant menace, full of energy and drive.....but most importantly he demanded the ball from his teammates last night and they wanted him on the ball. He made a few wrong choices, but kept getting himself in good positions and making moves/runs into space.
He was good and although there have been some doubters this season I still think he'll be an exceptional player in years to come.
He played well last night, my biggest gripe with him is still the lack of effort he shows when he tracks an opponent back, he's far too eager to hand them on without busting a gut to win the ball back.
I like how Martinez played him last season, give him the freedom to do his best work...not tracking back - behind the main striker in my opinion. He got lucky that he was also able to let Mirallas play with the same freedom. With Mirallas now looking at going, Barkley can be allowed to have this freedom. But anyway, great to see him looking back in form and not having to force play
I agree, defo his best position. He's a big lump and running around the pitch tracking back is just going to tire him out. Play him in the hole and let him do his work on the ball.
Big lump? are we talking about Barry or Barkley now? Not sure what you would call a big lump weight wise,
He's a big lad for his age, he looks a powerful player is what I mean, not the kind of lad who's going to run a marathon during the game but a player who is effective when driving forward other than tracking back.
No need to bash Hendo he has big boots to fill he has to replace some bloke who's main Input for the last 2 years was to trip over, say we move on countless times and get sent off In under a minute
