Fuel actually makes sense. Some people really will need though I’m sure plenty out there don’t. Loo roll was much dumber.
They just need to refuse to serve people filling up Jerry cans. £50 limit per car, £70 limit per van.
Far too lazy for that. Would very happily watch the golf and football all weekend and not go anywhere but will no doubt be forced to.
They’re always a ‘sort’, the kind of **** who’d barge yer gran out the way to get to the buffet first, IQ of a horse.
It’s bloody mad here . We filled up at BP near here (needle was on red ) . Now that one is shut , texaco is is shut , Sainsbury’s is shut and Tesco has people queued down the road .
Hopefully the supermarkets have activated their emergency plans which indicates enough fuel has to be left in the pumps for the emergency services first, then second their own workers. I know they've done this in the past and will assume they've got the commonsense to do it again.
I'm not sure what contingency plans are in place, but there must be some. Because you just know that those dumb ****ers who watched the news today and saw other people panic buying, will freak out and go and do the same tomorrow, which will probably double the demand and double the problem.
My car was on fumes, had it all sussed but had to detour to pick up my eldest so didn't go past my planned fill up. Two garages I went to had **** all fuel, I was then literally panic buying! I did get filled up but felt a right ****, as it was clear everyone else around was only doing it because the BBC told them not to. Had to buy premium diesel. Filling up today cost me £15 more than usual. Thank you media for causing the latest mass **** knuckle idiocy from British people.
Don't panic buy guys please log in to view this image This is the kind of **** I'd want to strike a match and flick it at.
Interesting read... https://www.globalcoldchainnews.com/driver-shortage-is-pan-european/ So I can't see the driver shortage being resolved anytime soon, even with visa's.
I think the UK's problem has been exacerbated by brexit, with lots of European drivers going back home during the pandemic and not returning because they can no longer work here. But the lack of HGV drivers is a european wide problem. The short term solution is to issue visa's to EU drivers to work here, longer term the Govt need to pay for HGV training to attract people to the profession. Longer term than that, the whole industry needs reform around drivers hours, conditions, facilities etc. If you're going to attract younger drivers with families to the profession, then the idea of driving a truck 15 hours across the country, having to pay to stop overnight in some **** hole truck stop and then drive 15 hours back is going to have to be made a lot more attractive. My concern is that this Govt will try and cut corners by extending the hours of existing truck drivers, and / or bump up light goods vehicle drivers to HGV and bypass the safety issues on the back of 'get the country moving again'
