The local dolphin - or as they're known in the Doric patois here, lowpin' dugs - paying homage to the lights last night at the harbour. Not my photo though - I had already succumbed to the delights of a bottle of rather tasty gin.
Morning all. The sun is out currently, but if the forecast is right, not for much longer. Every time it starts to dry up, along comes another deluge, and back to ground that is too wet to do much with. Despite this, people have been taking advantage of the public holidays, and heading for the coast or mountains. Reports show that resorts are booming, which has pushed the prices up. It looks like a bumper year for the hotels with the Olympics to come. Have a good day all.
One tends to believe that Covid has gone away, but reports do appear that show it is still around, if not on the scale we witnessed before. Today I received a letter from l'Assurance Maladie telling me that on the grounds of age, I am vulnerable, and should get my free Spring booster jab. I wonder how many more years this will cost our health service?
Just had mine an hour ago - and was told to expect a call back in November for the Autumn one, with a flu jab at the same time. I've no idea what what it's costing the NHS, but can't imagine it would be anywhere near as much as the £37 billion that the Test & Trace service was rumoured to have cost - for which no audit was ever done.
I am mindful of the conversationI had with my gp..... when offered the booster...and told him of serious and dangerously high BP for about three weeks after the last booster, which at the time they did not link to the jab........I said to him.... . if you were me would you have another booster.... . and he said... no... probably not.......
The appalling attack on the prison van yesterday, took place at the toll booths on the outskirts of Incarville, a place I have often stopped at to feed a couple of Euros into the machine there. It is the last place that I need to pay anything on my journey to the ferry at Dieppe. I am thankful I wasn't a witness to the ambush, and the people who used to man the toll booths are probably equally glad that the tolls are collected now by machine.
My grandson, who has a season ticket at Leeds, is over the moon that he will get a ticket for the playoff final at Wembley. It will be his first visit there, and he is really looking forward to it. He thought I had been lucky to go to the old stadium, but if truth be told it was worn out, and needed replacing.
I still think, with my day job hat on, that the twin towers should, and most certainly could have, been incorporated into the new design. I didn't particularly enjoy the Empire Stadium and I think the new one is utterly soulless. I've seen Watford win in both. Seen Luther score a hat trick in the old one. Seen Cruyff play there too. Saw Freddie strut his stuff in '86 and can pick myself out in the video/dvd, a seriously fantastic day! I can't bring myself to watch England there these days: too many flagshaggers, not enough patriots in the crowd. Quite happy with Leeds being in the final, they deserve it. I'll miss the away day regardless of who goes up! Love going to all three!! And we've lost Rotherham and Huddersfield, two of my absolute faves!!
Well - I truly hope he enjoys it. I went to the old stadium, and it had a sense of history and significance. The new one is a dump - driven entirely by commercialism. Just saying.
I haven't been to the new stadium, but have heard plenty of comments like yours. I suppose that as it sits there empty for the majority of the year, raking in the cash on a match day is to be expected.
Computer charging cable damaged so trying to power it up with the mobile phone one. Very slow as the message tells me, but another public holiday tomorrow means waiting until Wednesday for a new one to arrive.
I spent a couple of hours yesterday afternoon in warm sunshine trying to disentangle a rambling rose and numerous brambles. By bedtime there was a full scale thunderstorm and heavy rain, and it is still raining . I despair! As my computer is only charging too slowly with a phone charger, thought I would use a laptop that Mme has, but doesn't use. No battery in that, so charging, but now she doesn't remember the password. Having sent off for a code to reset it, it is finally up and running, but I am struggling with it being so slow. No wonder, she uses a tablet all the time. I must investigate further and find out why it is so slow. Have a good day all.
Arrived in sunshine...and then it rained.... wood fire....and again this morning...... . thankfully the electrics, phone, internet work ...as I still do online work when I am here....water non-potable tho...as th boiler has leaked radiator water into the cold water system.....the plombier says flush it through for a while...erm...how long is a while....as I dotn fancy anti-freeze and radiator rust in my diet...
