Sawflies are harmless, no sting or bite. They eat plants though. You got honeysuckle nearby, cos they like that?

That’s good to know, RJ. Cheers! There’s honeysuckle in the back garden (this was out the front) but the neighbours have some around. I need to get some more plus other climbers. Need to go to the garden centre next week when it’s a bit quieter.

Take a cutting Dave, just nick a stem and get it rooting. Save a fortune.
My Mum goes for walks with a zip lock bag with a piece of damp kitchen roll in it, plus a small pair of snips <laugh>

I know absolutely bugger all about gardening, so I tend to buy pots at garden centres and scatter them around the garden. Then I was in South Africa for 3 months and the ( now ex) girlfriend living in the house didn’t water anything so they all died (by the way - that wasn’t why we broke up! I’m not THAT bad :emoticon-0103-cool:)

I stumble my way through it, and sometimes learn things.
Cuttings are easy though, cut a stem of pretty much anything, dip it in a hormone gel, like Clonex, and stick it in a pot with a bit of soil. It should then produce roots.

<laugh> Ha! Fair enough Dave. I've usually got some cos it's handy for cannabis but I guess it's not in every shed.

I’ve been baking a bit during lockdown.

Storm Trooper short breads.. might need to work on my artistic abilities!

My close neighbour gets the long-tailed tits on her feeders and I get goldfinches on mine, but not the other way round. We both have sunflower hearts in the feeders, so I really don't understand. Anyone any idea or is it just one of those weird things?

Don't know Dave, we get both. The long tailed tits will have a roost nearby where they all huddle together at night and then they'll quite often make their way along a row of gardens on a regular daily route to and from their roost.
The goldfinches might be nesting near your garden, ours are in a beech tree right next door.

My little clump of sunflowers today. Biggest one has 14 more flowers coming from various points up the stem Screenshot_20200730_135216.jpg Screenshot_20200730_135250.jpg

I genuinely didn’t see that, at first glance.
I thought it was a gap in the leaves and that the lighter markings was actually a plant, a stem with off shoots.
