I bet it took Bailey all of a nanosecond to declare he would like to bat first when he won the toss this morning. MASSIVE toss to win.
They've surely got to take action against Somerset, it shouldn't be possible to have a pitch where the spinners bowl more overs than the seamers before lunch on the first day.
I'm quite for it. I don't mind a pitch that is different to the rest, where a wicket could fall any ball. I wouldn't want it for 14 matches a year, but for one match a year I find it a pleasant change. Just a shame that (a) we effectively only have one spinner, given how many full tosses Crane bowled today - you kind of need to ball to land, for the surface to do it's thing, and (b) that for the second match running we have badly got our XI wrong. Always should have gone with Adams over Topley. We shouldn't be shocked to see Taunton turning, just like we shouldn't have been shocked last week to see Chelmsford swinging. Two seamers only, and the extra batting depth.
