Scientist has made mind control real October 13, 2016 please log in to view this image A RESEARCH scientist in Rennes has realised the dream of science fiction fans - she can control objects with the power of her mind. Nataliya Kosmyna was one of 30 young researchers from across the world to be awarded a prestigious L'Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science scholarship at the Institut Pasteur in Paris for her work developing software that recognises and interprets the brain's electrical impulses. She told news website 20minutes.fr that she hopes her work will help disabled people lead more autonomous lives, by being able to turn on lights, open doors, or move wheelchairs just by thinking about it. "To turn on the light, one has to, for example, think very hard of a light bulb. We must learn to concentrate, to think only of that. But once the signal is recorded, the computer will be able to recognise it," she said. The 25-year-old from Ukraine arrived in France in 2010, where she studied computer science at Grenoble - where she developed equipment that allowed her to fly a drone by thought - before moving to the Institut national de recherche en informatique et en automatique (Inria) in Rennes.
With thanks to Kiwiqpr, who put this up on the QPR section of the Football thread under the caption "this made me smile..and God knows we need that". I agree, Kiwi, we certainly do:
Maybe, Ron, don't see why not, but horses are notoriously bad tipsters, just like trainers and jockeys? Say, since I mentioned the good old R's above , here's one of our top fans. I am sure a certain Sheffield Wednesday fan will like this picture too!
I did a Google search on that Swanny and came up with this. Must have given up on QPR . How is Matt Ingram doing? please log in to view this image
Wow, but who plays in beige? Matt Ingram still understudies Smithies, who is performing better than I thought he would. Ingram is very good from the few times I've seen him on TV. Confident, with a safe pair of hands, and a perfect physique for a goalkeeper. Think he will make it into the first team sooner rather than later. P.S. Dunno about West Ham playing in pink of late, what do you think?
Football and current affairs 'phone-ins' a wee bit repetitive at the moment so I thought I would treat myself to an afternoon of 'Night Train To Munich' with our aforementioned 'honey' Margaret Lockwood. Forgot how sly Paul Henreid was as the Nazi double agent. Awaiting the entry of the excellent Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne!
Came across this photo yesterday. Amanda on her incredible 138cm pony Crystal Storm. Amanda produced her from novice (costing 3.5k) to No 1 138 in the UK representing GB across Europe. We turned down £30k for her later. 17 years later she is happily chilling out with her mates in our field and looks as good as ever.
Wireless phone-ins not to my interest this morning so I am having a blast of Nils Lofgren 'Live' before visiting my Mum in her care home. 'Nils' seems to make everything evil, non-empathetic and downright cruel in the world disappear for a short while or, at least, recede in the distance. He even makes the 'Star Spangled Banner' sound like a love song! Does anyone else have a band, singer/songwriter or any artist who makes them feel this way?
Been lucky to have seen Nils a half-dozen times. Last time he opened with Putting Out Fires.....astonishing. Such a nice bloke, talked to him after the show and he said he didn't start playing the guitar until he was about 11 and by then he was a proficient accordian player. So when he started he fingered the guitar just as if it was an accordian.
Probably right to turn down £30k for her but should Amanda really be chilling in a field? Just send her to Glastonbury...
Wow, a massive smash in the Moto3 in Melbourne. One of the guys who goes down, then gets hit by another bike. He's now up and walking about. Amazing.
My feeling on this overall sentence, for what its worth, is one of absolute disgust and despair. What to do with the pussy judiciaries in this world? Note:..."Assaulted and left for dead" (in the Winter, I believe): http://www.dw.com/en/hamburg-teenagers-walk-free-after-gang-rape-conviction/a-36142782 At least the Prosection is appealing the sentence. Still hope of just sentences on these monsters, albeit a slim one?
Loathe to 'Like' your post. I find the most disgusting and upsetting part of the report is the current fashion throughout the 'civilised' Western world of 'recording' such attacks, be they sexual or solely (?) violent. This shows a great lack of empathy by the 'young men' plus possible violence as/for entertainment and should surely cancel out any perceived repentance displayed by the perpetrators. Even as I read my words I have difficulty considering the use of technology as a 'greater' evil than the physical assaults, again be they sexual or not. However, the recording seems not only part of the crime but an added 'kick' to the cruelty, violence and lack of consideration for another human being. Better stop as I am tying myself in knots.
