Thought I'd look into hiring an EV from Heathrow when I come home on the 22nd. Failed. I also looked at car charging in Quedgeley, Gloucester, where I'd be driving to (on Zap Map). Asda has a charging point and Gloucester South motorway services have a couple but they have 3 different types of plugs! It's not easy is it?
If you are staying in London for any length of time there is ZipCar. Last year they introduced 325 VW E-Golfs to their fleet. The best way I explain the system is let Robert Llewellyn of Fully Charged do it: Actually, I'm really surprised you can't hire an EV from Heathrow.
update: there's a restaurant in Gloucester that has 4 types of plugs available so you can slowly get pissed whilst your car is recharged and then it can drive you home on auto-pilot. I'm guessing there's gonna be a plug war before it's all standardised?
I saw the Audi e-tron (?) today. It doesn’t have Wing Mirrors, but cameras. The mirror shaped screen is inside the car on the door. Cool
It's pretty much already over for rapid charging. In the UK and Europe it's the CCS plug type. There are some Chademo plugs because the Nissan Leaf started with it. The other standard is Tesla's plug type, and Tesla has already changed the UK/Euro Model 3 to CCS, with adapters for the Model S and X. Most EVs have adapters available for other plug types. Tesla have also retro-fitted lots of their Superchargers to CCS type.
I do love the idea of cameras, because they can see much better in the rain. But what about the bleeders who come by and kick your door mirror off. They'll have a field day with sticky-out door cameras. They need to be concealed and unkickable. EDIT: that's not to say that concealing them and making them vandal proof is impossible, so we give up. Concealed cameras are already in the design pipeline.
no good for my Mrs who has smashed 2 wing mirrors in the last 3 years. For her wing mirrors are just a warning system to tell her she's getting a bit close to parked cars! sexist? moi?
I think the only problem they have with positioning is that the camera must have its viewpoint near the level of the driver. Not behind, not too much above or below. Otherwise they could put the cameras anywhere where there's an unobstructed view. They could change the law for rearward view cameras, and then it could all be much easier. I'm speculating here, of course, because if there was no problem with positioning, why would Audi put the cameras in such a place?
Seafood pasta for me. About the 200th time this season ....oh and a Chianti* *I know it should really be a nice Italian white with seafood pasta, but I am not a white wine fan. It's my party and I'll cry if I want to
The Queen and Dolly Parton arrived at the Pearly Gates, at the same time, to be told by St Peter, “We can only admit one more today.” Dolly Parton ripped her shirt open and said “It has to be me, with a pair of beauties like this”. The Queen asked to use the toilet and then returned to the gate to await St Peter’s decision. St Peter said, to the Queen “You may enter, your Majesty.” Dolly Parton kicked off demanding to know why her beautiful breasts had not gained her entry, to which St Peter replied “A royal flush always beats a pair, no matter how big the pair is.”
