Hello everyone, At the Hull City Southern Supporters we decided to launch our own Hall of Fame, given that there doesn't seem to be any such thing in existence (certainly officially). After making Les Mutrie the first inductee a couple of months ago as the Committee's Choice, we then put out a poll to our members to decide the next 20. A total of 98 people voted (20 votes each from a long list of 75 players/managers/owners). Some big names missing, as was bound to happen (who would you leave out?) but overall and interesting group. Here's the 20 anyway, running from the most votes a the top: Ken Wagstaff Ian Ashbee Chris Chilton Raich Carter Dean Windass Billy Whitehurst Stuart Elliott Justin Whittle Nick Barmby Billy Bly Warren Joyce Phil Brown Andy Dawson Adam Pearson Tony Norman Garreth Roberts Andy Davidson Harold Needler Keith Edwards Peter Taylor
I should add that we only considered players who've retired and managers/owners who've left us five years since, hence there being no Boaz, Steve Bruce, Damien Delaney and so on.
I did wonder why Markus Henriksen wasn’t the front runner. That explains it. Seriously though - good work Richard and the HCSS.
Someone on Facebook reacted to Ashbee's high placing in this with absolute fury! He's not on here too, is he?
Good work, but can't believe Andy Davison is so low down. Talking of missing names, I can think of an old time fan who would be incandescent to see some off the names chosen above his idol, Bill Bradbury. Some might think the same about Vigo Jensen, though they were both before my time. Personally I would have Houghton and Butler above some of those, and even Mally Lord for his dedication to the cause. But it is all about personal opinions, which are largely based on age and when you enjoyed games the most.
Aha that explains why Barmby's on there, but not Alex Bruce. S'all opinions aint it and yet again, good work by HCSS.
While I liked Geo if he gets in then in another five you'll have nearly the full team from 2013-16. HUD, Jake, Elmo etc
Doesn't the "five-year rule" only apply to managers/owners? Isn't retirement the sole qualification for players?
Yes he was. The long list is still visible for a couple of hours on the Hall of Fame page of the HCSS website.
Ryan France was on the long list but Jay Jay wasn't? Hmmm...surprised Manucho didn't make it as well.
Thanks Barchullona. In some respects I wish we’d widened it a little as Houghton and Jensen would be in there for two. But then you don’t want to dilute the accolade either. And we will add to it every year. Overall i’m happy with the spread of eras in there though.
