http://www.stevenagefc.com/news/article/transfer-james-dunne-02.01.14-1268891.aspx Potentially a very good signing on the cheap if Westley doesn't rate him. Was there player of the year last year and seems to be being forced out. Midfield could do with him!
He is a very good player at this level. I am shocked that they want to let him go. However if we were to bring him in I wouldn't want him to push Dack or Hessenthaler out of midfield as he is a central player and I think we are probably best to focus on players in wide midfield first as well as new centre backs. I think they are the priorities not as much central midfield now Hessenthaler has broken into the team.
We have apparently signed young forward Jack Marriot from Ipswich. Been on loan at Woking where he scored 9 in 9
Am I the only one who is screaming out for a winger? I've been crying for one for the last year and I still stand by we aren't creating enough chances from out wide. Bayo and Kedwell are more than capable of sticking it in the back of the net from their heads so why not dink it in more? Oh wait that's too sensible...
No. Ask alwaysright, I had exactly the same discussion with him Wednesday. Weston despite all his pace is just not strong enough to cut it on the wing. Where's Jordan Obita these days, I'd have him.
Good to see PT going in for a young player. Immediate thoughts are what about our own young lads but hey i'd give the lad a chance.
When I played for my school team & beyond, I was an 'old fashioned' left winger. In those days I had pace and a good delivery. It meant that once I waltzed past the defender, I put in loads of crosses. It was easy for the number 9 to be top scorer in the division. These tactics may not work in the Premiership or even in the Championship - but in the lower leagues you tend to find a more conventional target man. If you have a decent winger he will create the chances for the guy in the middle - if you remember Mulligan was scoring quite freely just before Matt Jarvis was sold. Bob Taylor flourished more when John Hodge came onto the pitch. And of course, if the ball breaks loose, from a cross into the penalty area, it is there to be latched upon by supporting cast ! nb - Weston is not the answer.
Jordan Obita is getting in the Reading team regularly now so I doubt we would get him back, something similar would do though.
Hewitt confirmed and also Jack Marriott a youth striker signed on a youth loan until end of the season also from Ipswich http://t.co/e3HCFsyidc
I thought that Marriot would be a short term loan to cover Keds op,so surprised to see its til the end of the season. Where does that leave Bayo or Danny when he returns, because if Marriot is a good as he seems, you would expect him to be first choice with Cody. Sort of surprised too, to see Harry Grant leave permanently as he seemed to be a good prospect when he joined, or maybe Martin was a bit biased because he is Martins nephew.
it says 'youth' loan does that make a difference financially and why we can take him until the end of season regardless if he plays?
I believe Youth loan is the same as "work experience" for the youth team lads. They play for another club for their normal wages which would be paid for by their parent club I believe. So on that understanding it looks like we've got a player for free.
Mulligan scored freely are you sure!! I remember him scoring in succesive games (once) but think that was as freely as it got, but John Hodge yes, it was his cross that Taylor headed in for one of my favourite goals ever in the last minute v Fulham, if we could locate a winger like him or Trigger for that matter and actually put crosses into the box I do agree we might score more goals. Getting back on topic though I agree with those saying that central defenders are what we need, neither Barrett or Legge are performing well enough and Davies just doesnt seem to be in Taylors plans, therefore I would like to us bring an experience old head and a younger more mobile defender too, I don't really know who is available but Taylor should have enough contacts to get us in the players that we need.
Thanks PegLeg, i did think there must be another reason behind it but i know nothing concerning the financial implications of these deals. So sounds good all round if correct.
AshfordGill I slightly exaggerated the scoring prowess of Mulligan - but fact is his tally halved the season after Jarvis left for Wolves. And I am confident that players with McDonalds ability ( he's coming back into form ) will prosper from balls into the box. We need all the options to score, that we can get. A lack of a decent winger reduces our chances quite considerably. He can be deployed as the 'one up front' when defending set pieces - thus providing an outlet - instead of the ball coming straight back at us ( PT negative tactics ). It's a poor team that can't be relied upon to defend corners & free kicks with ten men ! --- and if you don't cross the opposition half you can't really expect your goalkeeper to score your goals. You can defend all you like - but GOALS win games ( 46 unbeaten / no wins = 46 points = relegation ) ergo 22 remaining games unbeaten / no wins will mean 48 points total for the season = very likely relegation. I have spoken !

Your link appears broken harry for me. Found this one instead...http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25590097
As much has he would be attractive to me on the wing the answer is no...he had his chance and i don't generally believe in reinventing the past or what could have been. We need to move forward and we don't need to be dealing with personalities as much has i like the misguided lad.
