Good Morning. It's Monday 29th May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds finally put out of their misery Pathetic Leeds were finally put out of their misery, with little more than a wimper, after Spurs cruised to a 4-1 victory at Elland Road yesterday. After a pitiful campaign, it was expected that Allardyce's overpaid prima-donnas from LS11 would at least give their fans the sending off party they deserved; after all, they were playing against a Tottenham team with five losses from their previous seven games. Some hope! In a last desperate bid for survival, big Sam lined up an impenetrable five man defence, which proved as useful as a chocolate teapot, as Harry Kane fired the visitors ahead after just 90 seconds; leaving the players shell shocked and their fans exasperated. Leeds had several opportunities to equalise, but as usual squandered their chances. There was more than a hint of daja vu, when Spurs doubled their lead two minutes into the second half. Kane sliced open the Leeds defence, threading a ball, deep within the Leeds penalty area, gratefully received by Porro. Without much support, the Spaniard took a pot shot from a wide acute angle, but still managed to find the back of the net. This was far more than the fans could handle; large sections of the crowd finally (yet six months too late) turned on their fallen stars with renditions of 'you're not fit to wear the shirt'. Jack Harrison gave Leeds something to cheer about two thirds into the game, only for Kane to restore their two goal cushion two minutes later. Lucas Moura gave the travelling fans a memorable send off with a solo effort in the dying moments of the game, whilst the Leeds players pondered on where they'll be playing next season. please log in to view this image Clubs line up for Drameh Newly promoted Luton Town are desperate to keep hold of Cody Drameh, and make his loan move permanent, but face stiff competition from Championship winners Burnley. The 21yo has been in devastating form for the Hatters since his loan move in January, earning him an unbelievable 7.19 'Whoscored' rating. In their final 19 games, the Bedfordshire outfit have only lost once, compared to 8 losses over the season. please log in to view this image Can Leeds bounce back up? Leeds face some tough decisions over the next fortnight. They find themselves Managerless, without a Director of Football, and the owner wants out!!! The rumours doing the rounds suggest they want Brendan Rodgers, at the helm, supported by Stuart Webber as the Director of football. The ownership is more complecated. Radz wants out, so he can take charge of Sampdoria, but 49ers Enterprises are only willing to pay £170m, £330m less than what was on the table twelve months ago! Leeds will be desperate to regain promotion back to the top flight at their first attempt, but it won't be easy. Only 27% of clubs relegated from the top flight bounce straight back up, or 9.8% chance in the second time of asking. "It is the hope of any team axed from the Premier League. The plan: re-group in the summer, gather some serious momentum and then reclaim your spot in the top flight — hopefully in a stronger and more robust position than when you left the previous spring. The first parachute payment — 55 per cent of the equal distribution of broadcast payments to Premier League sides — received in the first season down in the EFL probably helps quite a bit in pulling this off." "But of the 81 teams relegated from domestic football’s elite division since 1995-96, only 22 (around 27 per cent) bounced straight back. On average, less than one relegated team a season returns to the top flight one year later. There have been campaigns in which the promotion spots are heavily occupied by the previous season’s relegated teams. There are five years in which two of the three sides to come down have been promoted back up." "Bouncing back up in two years is less common than going up again after one Championship season, suggesting that the best opportunity of re-entering the Premier League is on your first attempt. The second parachute payment, worth 45 per cent of the equal distribution of broadcast payments to Premier League sides, is a sizeable drop from season one’s 55 per cent. Just eight teams across the 81 in our sample were promoted to the Premier League after their second season in the second tier." please log in to view this image
Morning all, Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to Ellandback for providing both these daily debates and especially for the links to matchday games. I have not missed a game this season thanks to him..... yeah, ahem, thanks Ell.
Morning all So we're relegated. After the first 3 games I really thought we were going to do fantastic but alas we finished 19th. Honestly I almost cried in the bath last night.. Drameh going to Luton on a permanent so obvious on Saturday when they got promoted. Some podcast tweeted this morning that the players have to give Kinnear notice of their intentions by today on their futures. Those who intend to stay will be fought for. I reckon that the list of people who will want to stay will be very small. Can we bounce back? No a chance in hell.
Yeah well done Matt even though you are mainly fishing for big game mostly We can all debate the ins and outs the pros and cons of the last 2 seasons but next season starts right now. We need a statement from the board on what they are going to do. It needs to happen immediatley
No surprise as he has been one of the better performers in a poor defensive unit. Would love to see him stay but he is too good for the championship and will be desperate to fight for his international call up again.
Well for a long time, i did not think we were going down, but here we are just two seasons after that incredible first season back. Talk above about how we hope to bounce straight back up with he help of parachute payments helping with a few new recruits, problem with that is we have no one where it matters to recognise a decent footballer for the here & now. Total miss management from the board since we were promoted, has got us into this mess, with clueless player signings and coaching positions. We must start the rebuild in my opinion with a quality coach, imperative we target a Potter or Ranieri maybe to a lesser extent Rogers. Once one of them are in place, let them build a team to get us back up, they will get in players who with some of the talented youngsters will want (as it should be) play for the shirt, not as we have seen recently imo their pocket. This seasons team in my opinion is the worst Leeds United team i have had the displeasure to witness in sixteen years or so, half of them no matter what the cost must go.
I think Koch is gash. Though who knows what he identifies as. But if these big clubs want a lumbering oaf in their squad who are we to argue. Apparently our hapless keeper is worth top dollar too. I’m probably just a sh*t judge of a footballer
Morning all Agree with the thanks to Matt for the breakfast debates, Doc for the weekend ones and everyone who pops in even if it’s just to say an acknowledging hello. There are too many unknowns to even begin to debate the future, not to mention agents going into overdrive. We need an ownership announcement first, if that drags on it will really harm our future Coaches like Rogers; If the 49ers take full control and approach him with plans and budget he might say yes, as things stand we haven’t a chance of getting anyone decent, we couldn’t after sacking Jesse so right now we’ve even less chance A Swift ownership announcement is essential
The players have tried 100% regardless of what some supporters think, it's just they are all over the place as a team. That doesn't absolve them in any way from the poor performances which have taken us down but it does show how important who manages/coaches the team is. If we don't get that right going forward then any parachute money will be wasted and it will be a very long road back again.
I wouldn't be surprised if he and Rutter return to Germany. Rutter doesn't want to be here. Supposedly he was crying when he was told he was coming to us,
Morning all from on board the coach on way to Holyhead. Another fantastic weekend was had with our lot and great as always catching up with wakey chesh and jammy. I almost got Jammy to step into the plebs section of the ground. Almost. Had a great Saturday drinking with a real legend and must admit some of it was eye opening but that’s for another day Delighted with the classy way our fans handled the last day. We’ll always be a great club regardless of division we are in or what sort of relics wear the shirt on the field. Hopefully this is the start of a new beginning, especially for the younger fans, rather than a slow death. Btw for anyone who hasn’t met me I’m the one on left in shorts and my blue cellino too
