The "Big German" ? What about the " successful German, the positive German, the dynamic German, the bi-lingual German", all appropriate prefixes.
a. He played for as a striker and managed Lippstadt a team with a 4000 capacity stadium in the 5th tier of the German league pyramid before coaching Dortmund reserves. I wouldn't class that as successful. We had a manager that lifted the Champions league with Dortmund as a player. b. I would hope that he is positive in his own ability but he has yet to achieve anything as a player or manager. c. Dynamic? I'll take your word for it on that one. Batman and Robin were also dynamic . d. Bilingual? He may know other languages we simply don't know at this stage. So I'll retract my "big German" prefix as it has clearly offended you but I'll reserve judgement on this powerful genius hunky God amongst men until I see if he plays Russell Martin at centre back again.
Der grosse Deutsche I like it! Well I'm more optimistic than I can say, for some reason. Not that he's proved anything yet, but it's just so unlike Norwich, and I'm intrigued by the journey to come. Was so expecting a cheap has-been / cheap never-has-been from these shores. We'll see, I'm in for the ride!
It's good that Webber could bring in people he knows and trusts. I'll bet Badlan couldn't wait to get away from Wolves and super-agent now head recruiter Jorge Mendes.
Let's give the bloke a chance shall we? Hats off to the club for trying something a little different than the Warnocks of this league. I know nothing about this new guy at all and his CV is less than impressive as DD is pointing out but life's not all about what's written on a piece of paper. Let's all give the guy a chance and get behind the team fully this season. Who knows what might happen.
Yeah sorry for calling him "The big German " It was a moment of madness on my part. Fancy judging a profession sportsman on his CV and pointless stats? He's bilingual don't you know ?
Oh and while I'm at it.... Wilkins can **** right off. We're suppose to give Giggs a chance and all that because he is British, What planet is he on? We had the only black manager in the premier league and this is our first foreign coach ever. He is firmly in the Alan Brazil box for me now. Cock.
Let's give the bloke a chance shall we before he is written off? Probably how you think about Jeremy Corbyn.
I would give Noel Edmonds a chance if our shrewd board had chosen him to get us promoted . So what if Edmonds has never won anything in football? All this sycophantic bullshit over someone that nobody knows anything about is just bizarre. Dynamic indeed . Be sure to pleasure yourself over Ian Duncan Smith punching the air in delight as he sanctions disabled people.
Webber has only been at the club for a short while. In that short time he has - virtually single-handedly: a) dispensed with a totally inadequate recruiting division lock stock and barrel. b) lost - with a minimum of fuss / backlash, seven players who were not only out of contract but also high earners. c) identified that we're not getting enough 'mileage' out of our academy. d) located and recruited a younger staffed recruitment set up - one specialising in the UK, one concentrating on foreign leagues. e) sourced a coach from a European club with a tremendous pedigree who is used to dealing with younger players, to hopefully address the issues of point c) f) said coach's deputy is / was a defender, an area which every NCFC fan on the planet would agree needs immediate and urgent surgery. What say we give SW a break - unless the whole thing goes tits up next season. I suspect (very strongly) that it won't
I HOPE the Big German no mark pulls a rabbit out the hat and gets us promoted too. As I said much earlier that I would give him my full backing but I will not be particularly impressed if Martin is playing centre back first game of the season.
I'd get your unimpressed face ready then. I'll be amazed if our captain and current 1st choice CB is not a regular starter there next season too.
I see where you're coming from DD and so far FML has been fairly quiet re the appointment of DF. It's going to be interesting to see who is given the captain's armband next season and of course a LOT will depend on who is still at the club. If rumour control is to be believed, the Dorrans will be on his way to Rangers and of the players currently at CR, my choice for captain would be Howson. Edit - Oh well, that's 'blown my choice out of the water' - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/jonny-howson-wants-out-at-norwich-city-1-5042915. DRAT
Oh well, I suppose Wilkins and co can have another rant this morning re clubs not giving British managers a chance - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40105588 Edit - back on topic and I've just seen this article on MFW - http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...words-and-delivers-us-a-dynamic-a-risk-taker/ I felt this excerpt was particularly relevant - "Farke’s appointment will be seen – except perhaps by Ray Wilkins – as a clever piece of business, cleverly executed. If it works. With the depressing exceptions of Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis, any managerial/head coach appointment is a gamble. Daniel Farke’s nationality and experience arguably make the gamble greater. Lest we get carried away by the positive vibes, both Stuart Webber and Steve Stone have reminded us that what matters is not words but delivery. As we speak, nothing has been achieved. And yet, there’s a sense of hope among the City faithful – and there’s surely some justification for it. For one thing, we finally seem to have a coherent plan and actions that back it up. Let’s remind ourselves what Stuart Webber told this site about the qualities he was looking for in a Head Coach: “You need someone who has a strong and defined way of playing…something which wins games but in a way that we can build as our footballing philosophy” “He needs to be open to developing players. It’s really important he has an open mind to new, young players” “You want him to be dynamic, a risk-taker” Daniel Farke seems to tick those boxes far more emphatically than any of the other rumoured candidates. No club has a clearer style of play, ingrained through every level of the organisation, than Dortmund. It’s a positive, progressive and risk-taking style that gets fans excited. Can't wait to get to one of the friendlies and NO, I still don't regret giving up my season ticket, as I'll have Priority Membership and will be able to get tickets to the games I really want to go to and also get to experience sitting in other parts of the ground. Some great comments following the article and I thought this was BRILLIANT - "I am excited and impressed by SW and DF so far but I’m trying to be rational. I think if I was one of the young players mentioned I’d be eager for pre-season to start and I think that if I was any centre back that has been anywhere near the first team in the last 4 years I’d have the removal men on standby." So, in a nutshell, optimism tempered with a hint of caution and asking for PATIENCE - pretty much what most of us on here are saying and at the very least, it heralds a new beginning.
I'm hoping we haven't drawn up contracts with lucrative million pound sack bonuses for all those new backroom staff we've just hired.
