Everton fans must be sick as pigs now what with Roberto Martinez's Belgium being top of the FIFA World rankings, and Dutch football having a dramatic rennaissance under Ronald Koemann !
Like Silva they started well but seemed to fail after a season or two. Maybe its more down the players brought rather than the managers themselves. Think Martinez was accused of being too open and attacking and then Koeman was blamed for being too cautious!
Seems an odd match when a 1-1 would be a major disaster and a 0-0 would be a great advance towards a major competition.
Well Southgate said that we must find ways to win big games. First Spain and now Croatia must be big games so hopefully he has found the formula. Still think it is an odd competition where one goal separates glory and disaster - but as a test for England it couldn't have come at a better time. Looking at all the results since the world cup no one can say the momentum hasn't been maintained. Played W D L F A 6 4 1 1 10 5 And played Spain x2 (9), Croatia x2 (4), USA (23) and Switzerland (8). FIFA ranked in brackets. Just need to hope the core of the team stays fit towards the end of the domestic season.
Never mind the threat of a Premier league split - what about the discontent over the new EFL TV deal. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46267320
As I have a grandson who goes to watch Leeds, I do get some feedback. As one of the perceived larger clubs they do get picked out for live matches rather a lot. We complain about games getting moved around, but he doesn't often get a Saturday 3.00pm kick off.
I think they and Villla are on 75% of the time! Netherlands equalised late in Germany to join us, Switzerland and Portugal in the Nations league semi finals. You would have got good odds on those 4 teams being the semi finalists but helpful for England maybe if we can perform well. So they are all certain of a play-off spot were they not to win their European qualifying section and we will only have 5 teams in our group.
Chorley probably wish they had just lost the 1st game in a gallant effort /defeat rather than losing by 7 at Doncaster!
