You’re not doing proper work too busy doing ticky tocky videos dancing… I even saw an ambulance driver smile once what a bastard
So why does the government hand out massive sums (£6 million) to private schools like Winchester College that, from what I’ve just heard on PMQs ,charges £45k a year in fees ? All this while our comprehensive schools go begging parents for pencils, old uniform and books. Thought Starmer missed a chance when asked about why he doesn’t stop his MPs joining workers on the picket lines……he should have said that on the contrary….he supports them whole heartedly !!! Of course he wouldnt say that…because he doesn’t.
Much as I’d like him to be a bit more extreme, it makes sense to play a straight bat on this. No need to give the right wing press/the government a stick to beat him with.
Yeah fair point. However it just so ****ing frustrates me that he won’t just stand up and support the strikers……Isn’t that what Labours principles should be ? Of course we all know what side the Tories are on….and they can’t even be bothered to hide it anymore
Nice avatar. If we are to go on what he commits to a Starmer government will be indistinguishable from a Sunak one, but hopefully with a small upgrade in the quality of human beings involved.
Does the government give them £6m or is this the benefit of their ‘charitable’ status? Which is of course ridiculous. Tax them and ringfence the proceeds for state funded education.
To be honest G, I really don’t know and only saw this being talked of over PMQs……whichever way, it’s quite frankly outrageous
I didn’t listen to PMQs, was just going on Stainsey’s post. If the universities are serious about ‘levelling up’ the benefit of a private education, at least for those wanting to go on to higher education, will soon be very limited, if not a negative.
Did he ? When ? I didn’t hear that to be fair......just both him and Sunak making jibes at each other and failing to actually address the points made.
I think the £6m figure is the benefit public school parents get from not paying VAT on school fees. There wasn't an actual payment of that amount to Winchester College, but that wasn't clear from Starmer's question, which I'm sure was deliberate on his part.
A female member of the Royal Household at Buck House has been rightly censured for asking a woman of ethnicity where she came from, and not accepting the answer "The UK." A pretty dumb thing to do, but here's a question I don't know the answer to. Had she asked, and been told, say, "Catford", would it be acceptable if she had then asked the ethnic lady a second question, "and what is your heritage?" or is this a racist question?
If that is the case, then do you feel that is justified. Or would you say that’s yet again, the Tories giving more benefits to the rich ?
Would that be asked of other colleagues? If the answers no, then it’s not appropriate in the work place, it’s not necessarily racist but can be, so inappropriate. If the person wishes to discuss where their ancestors they may do so but otherwise it’s not really anyone else’s business.
We all know the answer to that one mate. Starmer is looking very weak at these PMQs. I know it's all theatre but I just don't see the point in it all when Sunak doesn't even answer a question.
I often ask my Black patients their ethnic background, mainly ‘cos then i can tell them I’m an adopted Trinie....never been called out for racism for it. However reading the transcript of what this upper class bint was said to have asked....I would say she’s probably a racist old ****.
Exactly Bob.....they both asked questions that could have been answered easily...but both failed miserably to even try.
It's all to do with charitable status, and it's been that way through Tory and Labour governments. Indeed, Labour politicians like Diane Abbott benefit, because they send their children to private schools. Should it continue? I don't know. That's a huge debate and I'd like to hear it before deciding. There is a very large element of foreign schoolchildren in UK private schools now. I guess if VAT was charged, at least we could rake that in.
