We are very well known for being kind and generous to teams who are struggling and players who haven't scored in an age.
Coming up in the next few days: Emery at his first Newcastle press interview, and a reporter asks him for his assessment of the Newcastle squad. Emery replies, — 'Ooh, you are awful…but I like you!'.
I had a feeling that would happen. It will be fascinating to see you takes the job as Newcastle could be marooned by the close of this weekend. The attraction of sufficient money to rebuild the squad might not be enough to pique interest. A question which I thought about after Saturday's match at Watford was what is the rule with away kits. When I first started following football in the 1970s, they were only worn if there was a definite clash in the teams' colours. Now it seems to be more of a marketing tool. Some of the second kits nowadays do not look too different from the home team's strip. I was wondering if there were an rules .
I believe there is a minimum number of games the third strip MUST be worn - agreed with the sponsors / manufacturers but this could just be for the big clubs So there would likely be something similar for away kits
Yeah there is. Remember us wearing the white one in a home cup game vs Chelsea in our first season back.
If Howe does go to Newcastle, I suspect their fans will be be generally underwhelmed. He would need to hit the ground running, or they will turn on him very quickly - as they usually do.
Here's Shearer, Lineker and Micah Richards discussing their top 10 PL free kick goals, guess who was #1?... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p...]-[GR02]-[PS_SOUNDS~N~~P_MOTDTop10_FreeKicks]
You don't have to guess the answer is obvious. It can only be that fallen from grace footballer Matt Le Tissier.
I think Howe will get longer than three months but I also think he will not save from from relegation. Howe would effectively be an appointment for a promotion push next season. What I think is odd about this is what is the appeal for Eddie Howe ? I cannot see him attracting top class talent to St James' nor can I see him having any more success in the transfer market as a whole - I think he mae some very poor signings whilst at Bournemouth. The risk is that Howe was seen a a good young prospect. Going to St James could see his reputation totally undone.
Probably a good bet to bring them back up should they go down. He'll be gone by next Christmas if he manages to keep them up imo. Big test for Howe overall really and one way or another this will really impact his reputation. Be interesting to see if he uses Fraser or ****s him off completely.
I’d actually be interested to know how many good signings they actually made post promotion They wasted a lot of money, mainly on unwanted Liverpool players at a crazy mark-up Is Newcastle’s squad now better than the one he took down with Bournemouth? ASM is probably better than anyone they had but beyond that? And can they really improve it enough in the January window? Perhaps they will be patient and are being pragmatic about relegation being a possibility and Howe being a good choice in the championship? So he gets the rest of this season, a season to promote them and then the start of the return season. And if that starts badly he has less than a year left and moving him will he easy
Pretty much what I was typing at the same time! And you change that to Christmas 2023 if they go down and he takes them straight back up
I would manage them for 3 months and be happy with only a fraction of the pay off. Perhaps I should let them know.
