Today is the 1st anniversary of the death of PC Keith Palmer and four other innocent people during the Westminster Bridge Attack. RIP Keith. Your bravery will never be forgotten.
Very, very sad news about Ray Wilkins. I met him at a shop opening in Bromley in the 70s....Ray and Peter Bonetti. Huge crowds turned up in Market Square. A sad day.
RIP Ray Wilkins, a true legend of the game for so many reasons. Will never be forgotten. And more very sad news this evening, Eric Bristow has passed away, aged only 60. The Crafty Cockney lays down his arrows for the last time. RIP Eric, and thanks for all those great memories of watching you and your generation of wonderful darts players, all those years ago.
Desperate overnight news about Eric Bristow I followed him on Twitter - not only a darts legend but also a great guy.
RIP Eric.... he and Jocky Wilson brought darts from the dark ages in the late 70's to where it is now... Eric had the ability to upset people but that was purely because he said what he thought and had a simple view on life.... if somebody hurts you when you are young you hurt them back when you are older.... no need to involve the police or the press, you just get it sorted... Eric would have bought a drink for the homeowner in Hither Green, if someone threatens your family (in your own home) then you deal with it 'end off' Sleep well Eric!
Eric also raised lots of money for charity over the years. Because he despised the liberal Left and never bothered to disguise it, he was vilified at times. He was old school - if you grew up in South London in the 70s and 80s there were a lot of Eric Bristows around.
Absolutely gutted to hear the news of the Crafty Cockney's passing. A legend of British sport, culture and life in general. The crowd's response to the news of Eric's death just goes to show how popular he was, despite the left's attempts to paint him as a relic from a bygone age. This country should cherish its outspoken icons, not vilify them for representing the man on the street. I, for one, will always remember the brilliance of Eric Bristow.
Great quote from Eric on I’m A Celebrity doing the rounds today. “I’m going to the gym more now because they’ve got a new machine I like” “Which machine?” Eric - “the vending machine”
I used to love watching Eric Bristow and Jocky Wilson. I played in my local darts team, and these were characters you could identify with. The same with snooker, when there were characters like Alex Higgins, Jimmy White, Bill Werbernuik, Cliff Thorburn etc. Both sports are much more professional now, and I rarely watch them. Same with music, all the self-taught musicians of the sixties are dying off now.
You can always tell who the public are on side with at times like this. There was a genuine outpouring of warmth & affection for Eric yesterday.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-43679808 Terrible terrible thing to happen.... RIP to all concerned.
Wow...2018 has been terrible so far for the death of talented legends On an unrelated note, RIP Dale Winton. Star of day time TV for the unemployed, & Carry on Camping.
Royston - the man with less talent for diplomacy than Boris Johnson... Granted Dale was perhaps not a towering genius of showbusiness, but it probably wouldn't hurt to pass up an opportunity to highlight the modesty of his contribution to the talent pool a day after the poor fellow has shuffled off this mortal coil. RIP Dale - I was not a great fan of yours but my thoughts are with your loved ones anyway today.
I hadn’t realised until today that Dale Winton was Cilla Black’s best friend in showbiz. I reckon she will be waiting for him at the Pearly Gates today, shouting “Surprise Surprise”
