Its also a little known fact that Peter Stringfellow and @ForestHillBilly have more in common than their hairstyles. Stringfellow resigned from the Conservative Party because he disagreed with Brexit.
I didn't know that. There can be very few men who don't have a sneaking admiration for Stringfellow, and the life he led. Mind you I'd be horrified at the thought of fatherhood at his late stage in life.
His was a real rags to riches story...from a tenement in Sheffield to nightclubs in Covent Garden & Miami. Hats off to him.
RIP Denman. Died yesterday, at the relatively young age [for a horse] of 18. For those that don't follow National Hunt racing, this Gold Cup winner - nicknamed "The Tank" - was an absolute brute of an animal. Half a ton of horse flesh - not only supremely gifted but so vicious that he used to regularly bite his own groom, as well as anyone else who dared to go near him.
Senator John McCain. Vietnam War Hero and 6 term senator from Arizona. Would have made a great President. RIP.
President Trump rubbished McCain by saying he was only a war hero because he was captured, and that Trump prefers soldiers who don't get captured. A view shared by Trump's favourite WW2 Leader - Joseph Stalin - who after 1945 had millions of returning Russian ex-POW's interned in Siberian gulags for years because he thought they had all been recruited as Nazi spies. American servicemen and women please take note; When he sends you to war, your Commander in Chief would prefer you to eat a bullet rather than be taken prisoner, in order to spare him any embarrassment. John McCain may have made his share of mistakes, but from where I'm standing McCain was 100 times more a courageous and loyal American than Donald Trump will ever be.
The devil makes work for idle hands. When most of us are boycotting what can you say? Not even fake news on the takeover any more.
Weststandfruitloop on ITTV asked the other day if it might be kinder to all concerned at this point just to close down CAFC and start again. And I don't think he was joking. Closing down the Club would mean everybody who works there losing their job. It would mean the Valley having luxury apartments built on it. Any 'phoenix' Club would have to begin life down in a non-league backwater with no ground, no resources beyond volunteers, no players except pub team amateurs and no facilities for any fans who do wish to follow it. Yet one or two Charlton supporters have begun to wonder if it is worth carrying on the way we are now. This is the measure of how low morale has fallen among Charlton supporters. There isn't even any fury left to galvanise them, as there still seems to be with fans of teams like Blackpool and Coventry. There is just a malaise. A creeping, all pervading weariness.
@ForestHillBilly is right Dire on the pitch, dire off it. We’ve lost 2 of our main contributors recently, and AHLL appears to have lost his dog in a bush We’ve got new talent though - including @Clb74 and @Smudger603
Today is time to pause to remember the posters who have departed 606 in the last 12 months From the good - @SuperChrissyisfantasticPardswasatrocious , to the bad @DonCorleone , to the ugly @Mr Sitter I don't think I've missed anyone ? [being Banned doesn't count].
RIP Fenella Fielding. A very good sort in her prime. Passed away aged 90, so presumably was on the radar of @baraettmattesvensson
