At some point the fans of other clubs will stop laughing at us, and genuinely feel a bit of sympathy. Maybe. That's kind of nice.
Confidence is key in elite sport and as a core unit, we are lacking it and have done for some time. We fell apart at the collapse last season and haven't recovered. These players do not immediately become bad and I think we have bought well overall. Joe Aribo is a good example. He showed promise early on, but had a few bad games, lost his place and now looks like someone who's scared to see the ball. Because this has happened for some time with the squad, it is almost endemic. Toxic almost. In team sport, it spreads and is very hard to reverse. While we would obviously lose players, the best way to reverse it is to drop down and level and start winning. Success breeds success and that's due to confidence. The problem is that the players are thinking about it while they are playing and not playing based on training and instinct. They have things to implement and that's great, but without confidence, they need to think about the basics too and end up making mistakes. Last night was unfortunate, but given we started with a second team, not horrible. There were good passages of play and some good aspects to the game, albeit against a league 2 side. The first penalty was extremely unfortunate and a minor misjudgement from our 5th choice CB. The second was nuts, though personally I thought a pen was harsh as it could just as easily been a yellow for simulation. If I was reffing the game, I would have given both a yellow and got on with the game (but thank god I'm not a ref!). We didn't look as dangerous as we should against a side at that level, but again this is a confidence thing. KWP is a huge player and was good, but those around him just looked devoid of confidence. Moussa is a prime suspect. He arrived in the league lacking the physical strength, but having creativity. He now has the physical strength, but the confidence to trick properly has gone. It's what's great to see about Kamaldeen and edozie (though he was well off it last night).
Beat Leicester 3-0 and we will be level on GD with Everton, but will have scored more goals than them.
I didn't get six numbers but I have retired abroad and never have to work again. I had a cunning plan.
